Pianos go out of tune due to weather changes and/or from being played frequently. Most manufacturers recommend having their pianos tuned every six months. More often may be necessary if it's being played frequently...
I began playing the piano when I was seven years old. I studied composition in college and spent years as a musician performing throughout the US and Europe. I then started focusing more on composing and began writing music for films, TV, and advertisements...
Between composing jobs, I developed an interest in tuning and repairing my own piano. I enjoyed learning a new skill, and the complexity of the piano mechanisms and tuning theory continued to intrigue me. I studied extensively and even acquired a second piano to work on. I then joined the Piano Technicians Guild and started attending conventions, classes, and workshops. Eventually, I started learning repair work under the guidance of a master technician with 50 years of experience in the LA area.
