Andrew works on our most complex projects, whether residential or institutional. He also supports our technical quality assurance program for all project types. You are equally likely to find Andrew enjoying a long nature hike as sketching the technical details of Alvar Aalto's Villa Mairea. Andrew combines the finesse of a technician with the passion of a craftsman. "I love everything from building science to woodworking: seeing a craftsman realize a great design idea, and learning from them along the way…"
Andrew joined TenBerke in 2010. In addition to providing design and detail expertise to all our current residential projects, Andrew was a technical review resource on our project for Harvard Law School, and was a member of the design team for Dickinson College. Andrew is a Senior Associate in the practice and received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Auburn University.

Arthi has led some of our largest and most complex projects. Her work is most often mission-driven, where the architect must weigh social and civic impacts with architectural and environmental considerations. Design, for Arthi, is a compassionate act where elegant solutions align in the cooperative beliefs and systems of organizations. Skillful, adroit, smart, for Arthi, it comes down to her faith in people:

Damaris is a Principal at TenBerke and is our principal in charge of finance. Our expert in the areas of business taxation, benefits, payroll compliance, and workplace ethics, it follows that she is drawn to architecture that is clean, simple, timeless, and durable. "Although I always think back to the colosseum, and find it incredible it's still standing after all this time, I love modern architecture: the clean design where you see only what's necessary… and there's nothing over the top."
Damaris joined TenBerke in 1998, and was made an owner in 2022. She earned her Associates Degree in Accounting with honors from Bergen Community College.

Deborah Berke began her career as an architect in 1982. Since then, she formed a partnership with Maitland Jones and Marc Leff in 2002. The firm expanded in 2019 to form the creative collective TenBerke: the team with whom she has created a distinct and lasting body of work. Deborah sets the creative direction for the practice and brings her design vision to each project. Her approach to architecture, which is informed by her pursuit of authenticity, love for the visual arts, and intellectual rigor, pervades our design processes and our projects.
In July 2016, Deborah became the first woman dean of the Yale School of Architecture, where she has been a professor since 1987. Deborah continues Yale's long tradition of distinguished practitioners who have served as Dean, including Robert A.M. Stern, Cesar Pelli, and Paul Rudolph. With a passion for both the teaching and practice of architecture, she continues to direct the firm's creative work
Deborah has previously taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, the University of California at Berkeley, and the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies, of which she was a fellow. In addition, Deborah has been a juror in numerous architecture and design award programs and lectures throughout the US and Canada. In 2013 she received the first Berkeley-Rupp award, given by the University of California at Berkeley to a "distinguished practitioner or academic who has made a significant contribution to promoting the advancement of women in the field of architecture, and whose work emphasizes a commitment to sustainability and the community." Deborah received the AIA's prestigious Topaz Award for her "nimble harmonization of education and practice" in 2022.
Deborah is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, a member of the Pritzker Architecture Prize Jury, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, member of the National Academy of Design, and a Board Member of The James Howell Foundation. Over the past two decades, Deborah has also served as trustee and vice president of desigNYC, founding trustee of New York City's Design Trust for Public Space, trustee of the National Building Museum, Chair of the Board of Advisors for the Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture at Columbia University, trustee of the Brearley School, and a vice president of the AIA New York Chapter.
Deborah is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (B.F.A. and B. Architecture) and The City University of New York (M. Urban Planning in Urban Design). In 2005, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Marc is an impresario among form-makers. His sculptural touch reflects and refines the places where his buildings are found. Place is important to Marc and his projects are far flung. They depend, for their distinctiveness, on where they are. Iconic to the last, each says not "here I am!" so much as "I am here".
Marc graduated from Yale University with a B.A. He started working for Deborah in 1993, and founded Deborah Berke Partners with Deborah and Mait in 2002. Today he is a Principal of TenBerke. Marc works on commercial office and residential projects. He leads our Finance and Operations groups and works with Ameet on how the firm delivers great projects of all types.

Matt is an architect for whom the way things fit together at many scales is a source of pleasure. "My coffee maker may be my favorite artifact of design, but running along the water's edge in Long Island City connects me to views of the city. I love the amazing landscapes of so many different colors, textures, and structures."
Matt joined TenBerke in 2019 and was promoted to Senior Associate in 2023. Matt balances his technical and aesthetic design expertise on complex and large projects. He specializes in facade design, applying detailed technical knowledge at early phases of projects to achieve innovative aesthetic concepts. Matt served as Project Architect for the exterior and envelope for the Princeton University Residential Colleges project. He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Carnegie Mellon University and his Master of Architecture degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

In music, Peggy may quote Monk; as an artist, she is drawn to Matisse. Peggy thinks about architecture that expands the boundaries of milieu. "My favorite place would be any place I'm camping; this is in no small part because of the equipment, and also because of the type of shelter that puts you closer to nature." At TenBerke, Peggy works on projects that are similarly complex and boundless.
Peggy is an Associate and has long experience in arts centers on university campuses. Since joining TenBerke in 2018, Peggy has continued to work on arts projects such as the Albee Foundation renovation and higher education projects, including our renovation of the University of Arkansas Fine Arts Center. Peggy graduated from Wesleyan University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and Art History. She also received a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan, where she was a recipient of the Taubman Scholarship.

Toby joined TenBerke in 2021, coming from Renzo Piano Building Workshop. Known for his technical finesse and approach to detailing that could be described as "tactility meets common sense", he draws inspiration from surprising sources: "I love kitchens, in particular Julia Child's kitchen. The absurd utility, and disorder some might call chaos, feels very honest to me."
Toby has notable experience delivering complex projects of a wide range of program types and scales, working in offices in San Francisco, Genoa, and New York. He is an Associate at TenBerke and currently the project architect for the Yale University Upper Science Hill Development. Toby received a Bachelor of Arts in Art History degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Architecture degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.
