Dovecote Court is situated in the grounds of the historic Potters Marston Hall alongside the Church of St Mary the Virgin, one of the smallest in Leicestershire. The Hall dates back to 1086, the period of the Domesday Survey when it was held as a convent by the Benedictine Priory of St Mary of Coventry. Pottery was the ancient craft of this community from around 1250, evidence of this is still seen in the field behind the Church, hence the Potters of Marsden became Potters Marston. Originally surrounded by a moat, it remained as a priory until the dissolution in 1539 when it came into the possession of a family of landed importance and farming the land really started...
