WEST COAST MEDICAL CLINIC - Key Persons
Dr. Chilton is originally from Maple Ridge, BC. She received her Bachelor Degree in Biology and Psychology at the University of Victoria in 2011, then moved to Vancouver to study medicine at UBC after working briefly as a piano teacher. After completing the Family Medicine residency program in Ottawa in 2018, she moved back to Victoria and joined the West Coast Family Medical Clinic team. In addition to taking over Dr. Brennan McKnight's practice in September 2019, Dr. Chilton will also be taking on maternity patients in association with the Pacific Maternity group of physicians. Dr. van Breda was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. He received his medical degree in 2011 from the University of Cape Town, and completed his post-graduate training at Groote Schuur Hospital. He and his wife Alison then moved to the Drakensberg Mountains in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, where he worked as a rural doctor at Emmaus Hospital for 3 years, providing health-care to the surrounding communities. Dr van Breda moved to Brooks, Alberta in 2016 practicing as a family physician, as well as covering emergency room, hospitalist, maternity and caesarean section calls at Brooks Health Centre. After 3 years working in Alberta, Dr van Breda and his family decided to move to Sooke where he joined the West Coast Family Medical Clinic, taking over Dr. Ian McKnight's practice in January 2020.
Dr. Kluge was raised in East Sooke. He completed his undergraduate degree in anthropology at the University of Victoria before moving to Hamilton to complete a Masters degree in physical anthropology. Dr Kluge completed medical school at McMaster University before moving back home to complete residency through the University of BC. He opened his family medicine practice in Sooke in 2013. Dr. Kluge is actively involved in teaching medical students and family medicine residents. Dr Kluge is not currently accepting new patients.
Dr. Pocock originally hails from the UK, where he completed his medical training in Sheffield and Warwickshire. He has been practicing medicine in "small town" Canada since 1986. Dr. Pocock has a special interest in addictions and chronic pain and has transitioned into this as the sole focus of his practice as of January 2019. He is currently accepting referrals for these services, but is not accepting new family practice patients.
Dr. Herrling grew up in Sooke and studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Northern British Columbia before returning to the Island to study medicine at the Island Medical Program (UBC). She completed her Family Practice Residency in Campbell River and in 2017 returned home to Sooke to start a medical practice. She is not currently accepting new patients.
Dr. Khatkar is originally from Surrey, BC and completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences at SFU in 2011. She studied medicine in Ireland at UCC, and returned to BC to complete residency through UBC in Victoria. She will be joining the West Coast Family Medical team in August 2020.
Dr. Saunders trained in London, England. He holds postgraduate qualifications in Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Paediatrics. Prior to moving to Sooke in 1982, he worked in South London, Toronto, and Quesnel. He has also worked as a Medical Director for BBC Television. His main clinical interests include Seniors Care and Paediatrics. He particularly enjoys rural medicine. He recently gave up the provision of intrapartum maternity care. Dr. Saunders presently holds multiple appointments within the South island Division of Family Practice, Doctors of British Columbia and the Canadian Medical Association. He is passionate about health care transformation in family medicine. He is not accepting new patients apart from referrals from midwives and other physicians returning newborn mothers and babies for care in Sooke.
Dr.Vally has been living and working in Sooke since 1992. He is a graduate of the UBC Faculty of Medicine and is actively involved in medical school and family practice residency training. He is one of the physicians providing medical services to students at the local high school clinic. Dr. Vally is not accepting new patients
Dr. Forsberg spent most of her early years in Vernon, studied Biology at Simon Fraser University and graduated from Medical School at the University of British Columbia in 2002. She practiced in rural BC, the Northwest Territories and New Zealand before starting a medical practice in Sooke in 2006, where she is the current Medical Director for Sooke Hospice. Dr. Forsberg's patients will often meet Medical Students and Residents during their visits; she appreciates patients' participation in this important part of medical learning. She is not currently accepting new patients.
Janelle is originally from St. Paul, Alberta. She graduated with a bachelor of science in Nursing at the university of Ottawa in 2008. She initially worked as an ER nurse in Ottawa, Victoria and Vancouver. She completed her Masters of Science in Nursing, Nurse practitioner in 2015 at UBC. As a Nurse Practitioner she's worked in neurology, chronic pain management and most recently in oncology. She has a special interest in cancer care and palliative care. Janelle is fluent in both English and French, and she is excited to be relocating to Sooke to start a general family medicine practice.
