Leading the Centre was Professor James Widmer, who saw an opportunity for a company to develop and manufacture an alternative to traditional and unsustainable electric motors. Advanced Electric Machines (AEM) was founded in March 2017 by James and Dr Andy Steven, and by 2019 we had secured more than £25 million of investment to continue developing and expanding these technologies with a range of partners and customers... Over the past five years, AEM has worked with world-class academics, global vehicle manufacturers and leading industrial partners to develop the most sustainable and highest performing powertrain solutions for electric vehicles, from passenger cars and trucks to tractors and aerospace. Our technology is changing the perception of electrification and its application is leaving more rare earth and copper in the ground where it belongs.
