StormTunnel combines the storage capacity of bored tunnels with infiltration capability of drywells to deliver an entirely new Detention-Infiltration-Retention BMP with no land constraints. It capitalizes on recent advances and innovations in tunneling, which have made it a viable alternative for urban infrastructure. StormTunnel is bored under public streets and parks, below existing utilities, where land availability is no issue. The tunneling eliminates the public impact of surface construction and minimizes the earthwork. StormTunnel does not need diversion pumping since it is below the storm drain and can eliminate the need for pretreatment by providing internal retention space for sediment deposition before water reaches the infiltration drywell inlets, which are equipped with filter fabric that protect the drywells from any remaining suspended solids...
