Dr Preyen Naidu

Dr Preyen Naidu completed his undergraduate training in medicine at the University of Natal in 2004. After completing his Internship at Tygerberg Hospital in 2005, and community service at Mitchell's Plain and GF Jooste hospitals in 2006, he returned to Durban, where he completed his speciality training in orthopaedic surgery in 2013. Dr Preyen Naidu spent three years training in the arthroplasty unit at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, in Durban, under Professor IE Goga. During this time, Dr Naidu gained experience in hip replacement and knee replacement surgery, as well as revision surgeries, working closely with Dr Koos Jordaan, the current head of the department of the arthroplasty unit at Tygerberg Hospital. In 2014, he graduated from the Smith and Nephew Arthroplasty Academy, visiting various expert surgeons around South Africa, Belgium, and the United Kingdom. Dr Preyen Naidu stayed on at the arthroplasty unit in Durban after completing his fellowship and remained involved in the training of undergraduate medical students, as well as training the UKZN registrars in orthopaedic surgery. While at the academic hospital, Dr Naidu spent a year training at the Sports Medicine Unit with Dr Paul Ryan, gaining exposure to knee ligament reconstruction and shoulder surgery. Dr Preyen Naidu was also involved in running a weekly orthopaedic trauma slate at Addington Hospital and attended to orthopaedic patients at South Africa's first Level One accredited Trauma Centre and ICU at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. Dr Preyen Naidu is currently the resident, full-time hip and knee surgeon at Netcare Blaauwberg Hospital. Dr Preyen Naidu is also certified in robotic surgery for the hip and knee and offers this to prospective patients eligible for surgery.
