Dr. Wilcox grew up in Port Dickinson then attended Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Wilcox practiced in Glens Falls, New York before purchasing land on Upper Front Street in Binghamton. On Upper Front Street he built a hospital that operated as a mixed animal practice. In the late 1970s Dr. Wilcox sold the large animal portion of the practice to one of his associate veterinarians. Chenango Valley became exclusively a small animal practice. The practice was primarily a two-doctor practice until 1985 when a third doctor was added. In 1986 Dr. Mark Silverio joined the practice. Dr. Christopher Allen purchased the hospital in 1988. During the 1990s, the practice continued to grow requiring an addition be added to their building.
