Akea Shepard

Akea Shepard is the Founder & CEO of Black Education Nation. As an HBCU graduate, she has experienced firsthand the impact of historical & cultural education. She is passionate and dedicated to bettering our community, which has led to a decade of successful experience supporting students, teachers, and schools. Akea found her love for teaching while earning her BA in Psychology at Spelman College. During this time, she worked as a home school tutor helping students who had fallen behind in traditional school by providing individualized support. She also volunteered with Breakthrough Collaborative to help middle and high school students develop academic skills and study habits to prepare and succeed in college. Upon graduation, Akea joined Teach for America, joining the movement for educational equity and excellence, and prompting a career as a secondary science teacher and leader in Miami-Dade County.
