Dr. Demetris Nicolaides

Dr. Demetris Nicolaides holds Diploma in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), as well as MSc in Structural Engineering from the Cardiff University, UK. From the same school he received his PhD in Civil Engineering in 2004, in the research area of fracture and fatigue of Ultra High-Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites (UHPFRCCs). He is currently an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Frederick University in Cyprus. He worked as a civil engineering consultant in Greece and Cyprus, being involved in large scale projects. He is a member of the American Concrete Institute, member of the Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK), member of the Association of Civil Engineers of Cyprus (ΣΠΟΛΜΗΚ), approved Technical Expert of the Cyprus Certification Company (Concrete Industry, Cement, Aggregates, Lime, Mines), member of the National Technical Committees for the application of European Standards and Specifications for Construction Products in Cyprus and Chair of the National Technical Committee for Eurocode 2 (Concrete Structures). Dr. Nicolaides's research focuses on (1) Technology of UHPFRCCs with particular interest in (a) development, mechanical and durability properties, (b) impact - blast resistance, and (c) fracture and fatigue. (2) Concrete technology with particular interest in (a) uses of construction and demolition wastes as aggregates in concrete, (b) cement replacement materials and (c) use of lime by-product powders as fillers in concrete. (3) Safety of structures with particular interest in (a) protection against blast and impact, (b) retrofitting techniques of structures, and (c) non-destructive testing techniques of concrete structures. He has published research work in the fields of Concrete Technology, UHPFRCCs, sustainable building materials, etc. Dr Nicolaides has taught graduate and undergraduate level courses on such topics as Concrete Technology, Construction Materials, Fracture Mechanics, Design of Concrete Structures, etc.

Dr. Pericles Savva

Dr. Pericles Savva works as a quality control and research manager in the group of companies of Latomia Pharmakas Plc. His main duties include the supervision of the production, procedures, mixtures quality and testing in order to consort with the regulatory, the projects requirement and the internal quality controls. Mr. Savva has great experience in laboratory and advanced testing procedures. He is a PhD holder from the University of Cyprus. He has been involved as Principal Investigator in a co-funded from the European Commission and the Republic of Cyprus research project ( 41.500 - CONCEPT/ 0617/ 0071) in 2017 and as a research associate in a co-funded from the European Commission and the Republic of Cyprus research project ( 180.000 - TECHNOLOGY/ MATERIALS/ 0609 (BIE)) in 2011, aiming to develop an ultra-high-performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite using local materials and evaluate its response in impact loading. The specific yielded in several journal publications (P1 and P2) and conference papers (to be submitted upon request). His PhD emphasized on improving concrete microstructure using the technique of internal curing without compromising the materials mechanical properties and durability. His PhD yielded in three journal publications (P3, P4 and P5) and various conference papers (to be submitted upon request). He is also participating in various multidisciplinary research programs involving the development of non-destructive techniques using optical fibers and electrical sensors to monitor various properties of concrete.

Michael Petrou

Professor Michael Petrou is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cyprus. He served as the Chair of the Department for three years. He has been a Professor/Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cyprus since 2004. Prior to this appointment, he worked as an Associate/Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina, U.S.A. and as an Associate Professor at the University of Thessaly, Greece. He received a Diploma from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece in 1987 and a M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, U.S.A. in 1991 and 1993 respectively. Professor Petrou has more than 23 years of teaching experience of undergraduate and graduate courses. He has been awarded the A.S.E.E. Southeastern Section Outstanding Teaching Award in 2001 and the James M. Robins Excellence in Teaching Award (Chi Epsilon Southern District, 1999). He possesses significant experience of supervision of 4 doctoral, 2 postdoctoral and 30 master researchers. He helped both post-doctoral researchers to develop their research/academic careers reaching their full potential. One of them (Dr. Baolin Wan) is an associate professor at Marquette University, U.S.A. and the other (Dr. Antonios Kanellopoulos) is a research associate at Cambridge University in the UK. Such experience is crucial for the successful completion of the proposed research project. Professor Petrou is best known for his expertise in building materials, in what comprises a perfect match for the proposed research. He is also the Director of the laboratories in which the research work will be conducted: the Building Materials and the Structures and Concrete Technology Laboratories. He has been the author/co-author of 117 research publications, including 46 refereed journal publications. He received more than 3.8 million in research funding for a total of 32 projects. He was the principal investigator for 18 research projects. Funding sources include private, state, and federal agencies mainly from the U.S.A. and Europe such as the National Science Foundation, South Carolina Department of Transportation, U.S. Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation, Department of Energy, Westinghouse Savannah River Company, University of Cyprus, Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation and European Commission.

Ms. Irene Georgiadou

Ms. Irene Georgiadou works as a Environmental officer in the group of companies of Latomia Pharmakas Plc since 2017. Her main duties focus on the establishment of strategies towards ensuring and improving the groups Environmental strategy. Ms. Georgiadou has great experience in laboratory procedures. She has received his B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from Aegean University (2015), and her M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from Teesside University (2016)
