The BuckOH is a complementary currency for Ohio that circulates in tandem with the dollar. Like most complementary (or community) currencies, it is a way to fill the gap left by a shortage of national currency (i.e., U.S. dollars) for individuals, businesses and organizations... From shells to precious metals or the scrip money issued during the Great Depression, currency has taken many forms. Airline miles are probably the best-known complementary currency today (even if most people don't label them currency). And crypto currencies created by private issuers such as Bitcoin or Etherium have made the idea of alternative currencies more familiar... The BuckOH is part of a local economic development program called the Sustainable Communities Framework.
