Gordon Brown

Qualifications BVM&S CertSAO MRCVS RCVS Diplomate Small Animal Surgery (Orthopaedics) Gordon graduated from Edinburgh University in 1984. He joined the practice in 1986 and founded the orthopaedic referral practice in 1997 with Simon Gilbert. He is now a referral director at the Grove. Gordon's area of expertise is in the diagnosis and treatment of small animal orthopaedics and spinal injuries. In 1994 he gained his certificate in small animal orthopaedics (an examination set by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) and was awarded the Leslie Vaughan prize. Outside the practice Gordon is a family man, married to Sarah and they have three children. The Brown family is completed by three dogs - Milly, Archie and Badger and a cat called Jazz.

James Tattersall

Job Titles:

Qualifications BVSc, BSc, CertSAS, DiplECVS ECVS European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery RCVS Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Surgery (Orthopaedics) James graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2000. He won the 2000 RCVS Fitzwygram prize; awarded to the most academically outstanding student from UK veterinary schools. After a year in small animal practice, he went on to complete an internship in small animal medicine and surgery, followed by a residency in small animal surgery (CertSAS) in 2003. He was appointed lecturer in small animal orthopaedics at the University of Edinburgh in 2004 and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) in 2006. James left the University to join The Grove Veterinary Orthopaedic Referrals in January 2007. James is married to Liz and has 2 young children.

Richard Whitelock

Qualifications BVetMed DVR DSAS (Orth) DipECVS FRCVS RCVS and European Specialist in Small Animal Orthopaedics Richard joins Grove Referrals in September 2019 from his previous role as Director of Surgery at the University of Cambridge Veterinary School. He became an RCVS recognised Specialist in Small Animal Orthopaedic Surgery in 1998 and is also recognised as a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. Richard's impressive achievements include former Presidency of the Europe College of Veterinary Surgeons (2011) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (2017). RCVS Fellowship is awarded to distinguished veterinary surgeons in recognition of their excellence and on-going commitment to using their experience and knowledge to enhance the profession further. Richard graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1989 and after a period in general practice he worked in one of the first small animal referral hospitals in the UK. He subsequently studied radiology at the Royal Veterinary College which acted as the springboard to seek and secure a surgical training position at the Veterinary School, Cambridge University. Following successful completion of surgical training, Richard went on to co-found what became a hugely successful private referral practice where he led the orthopaedic service for 18 years. He adds considerable expertise to the team with professional interests including joint replacement, elbow dysplasia, cruciate ligament injuries, fracture repair and arthroscopic surgery.

Simon Gilbert

Qualifications MA VetMB, CertSAO, CertVR RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Orthopaedics Simon graduated from Queens College, Cambridge University in 1988. He joined the practice in 1994 and founded the orthopaedic referral practice with Gordon Brown. Simon's area of expertise is in the diagnosis and treatment of small animal orthopaedics and spinal injuries. He gained his Certificate in Veterinary Radiology in 1991 and Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedics in 1994. Both are examinations set by the Royal College of Vet. Surgeons. Together with Gordon, he runs the practices' orthopaedic and spinal referral practice as "Referral Director". Simon is married to Jane, also a vet who works part-time at the Dereham practice. They have a family of 3 children, a Labrador called Pippa, a Norfolk terrier called Lottie and 2 rabbits.
