Andreas is employed at NBIS in Uppsala as a system developer. After studying numerical analysis and high-performance computing at Uppsala University in the 1990s, Andreas transitioned into software development for life sciences. He began his career as a research fellow and bioinformatics support technician at AgResearch in New Zealand in late 2000. In 2003, he moved to EMBL-EBI near Cambridge in the UK to assist in the implementation and deployment of distributed annotation servers (DAS) within the national e-Protein network and the European BioSapiens network of excellence. During his time at EMBL-EBI, he was part of the Ensembl software team, where he developed and maintained the Ensembl core infrastructure, including the Perl API and SQL schema, as well as BioMart. Before returning to Uppsala in 2014, Andreas worked for two years in the Ensembl gene annotation team at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. His work there primarily focused on various aspects of the implementation of the Ensembl automatic gene annotation pipeline, including the annotation of the cat and turtle genomes. In his current position at NBIS, Andreas is mainly a senior backend software developer. Additionally, he has operational responsibilities, including caring for a number of internal services.

Biography Anna has a background in leading agile software development projects in the medtech and biotech industry, as well as many years of experience of conveying an understandable message about advanced technology. At NBIS, Anna leads international projects on sharing human data and is Head of human data. She also coaches the system development team (and others) on agile mindset and methodology.

Biography Annika has bachelor's degree in Cultural Entrepreneurship and a master's degree in Museology. For several years she worked as a tour guide and coordinator within the museum field. In 2023 she changed careers by attending a web development bootcamp and joined NBIS as a developer in September later that year.

Björn works as a manager of the NBIS support team fokusing on areas including Microbiology, Infection Biology, and Structural biology, providing advanced bioinformatics support and training to Swedish life science research community. Our work includes consultation, hands-on support and postgraduate training in a diverse range of areas such as metagenomics, microbiology, metabolomics, Cryo-EM data processing, protein structure prediction, workflow management systems and machine learning. We are engaged in the SciLifeLab & Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS), by providing bioinformatics support within the DDLS Epidemiology and Biology of Infections research area. Previous research experience: Björn has a PhD in Molecular evolution (2009). His previous research span genome assembly and comparative genomics in a wide range of organisms spanning from bacteria to plants. Björn is the co-director and SciLifeLab platform coordinator at NBIS.

Carolina Wählby

Carolina Wählby is professor in Quantitative Microscopy at the Dept. of Information Technology, Uppsala University, and Scientific Director of the NBIS Bioimage Informatics Unit. Her research is focused on developing computational approaches for extracting information from image data with applications in life science; primarily at the microscopy scale. Methods include traditional image analysis and computer vision technology as well as AI and deep learning. The goal of the analysis ranges from fast antibiotics susceptibility testing to ‘functional pathology' combining tissue morphology with spatial transcriptomics. She received the SBI2 President's innovation award in 2014 for her pioneering work on in situ sequencing, the Thuréus prize in 2015 for development of open tools for image analysis, and is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. She is an active member of the steering group of a 300M effort on Data Driven Life Science, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, with the ambitious goal of training the next generation of life scientists. She has a MSc in molecular biotechnology and a PhD in digital image analysis, and carried out postdoc research within genetics and pathology. She worked at the Imaging Platform of the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT in 2009-2015 and became full professor at Uppsala University in 2014.

Dag Ahrén works as manager for the Microbiology, Immunology and Structural Biology team. Dag did a PhD at Lund University, Sweden and a post doc at the Comparative Genomics Group at EBI, Wellcome Trust Campus, Cambridge, UK as well as at Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), Greece and has an Associate Professorship in Genomics. During his research career, Dag Ahren has aquired an expertise in both environmental science and bioinformatics. The topics has recently been focused on metagenomics as well as genomics of non-model organisms from unicellular microorganisms to complex plant genomes.

Biography Katarina Lejonlid is a System developer with computer science bachelor degree from Uppsala University. She also has a social worker degree from Umeå University and has also worked in the community sector. Katarina is a full stack developer with focus on front end development. She also has strong interest in GIT, accessibility and design. She joined NBIS 2022 and has since then engaged in projects like timelogging (UrDr), nbis website and pollen (PLUPP). Since 2023 she is also a certified Scrum Master.
