Anahita Rahmatian (she/her) has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and is a graduate of the Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate program at Capilano University. Anahita is dedicated to helping others and by joining the Investigations Office, she can give back to her community by building a safe and supportive environment at UBC. In her free time, Anahita enjoys reading novels, playing video games, and learning new languages.
Asmaa Heban (she/her) has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of British Columbia, and is currently pursuing her Juris Doctor degree also at the University of British Columbia. Prior to joining the Investigations Office, she worked as a student clinician in various community legal clinics dedicated to assisting vulnerable populations. She is excited to be part of a team that helps build a safer, more equitable environment for all members of the university community. In her spare time, she enjoys reading books of all sorts and nerding out over the latest box office releases.

Carly Stanhope (she/her) is a practicing lawyer who is dedicated to advancing equality through the development of participant-centered legal processes. Carly comes to UBC from private legal practice, where she advised post-secondary institutions on the development and review of policies and processes regarding human rights, bullying and harassment, sexual misconduct and at-risk behaviour, and applied a trauma-informed approach to conducting investigations and preparing witnesses for testimony regarding their experiences of sexualized violence. Carly holds an honours undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Public Policy from the University of Guelph and a Juris Doctor from the University of British Columbia.
Dylan Robinson (he/him) connects with students, faculty, staff, and other campus stakeholders to ensure everyone can access the IO's services when they need us. Dylan has years of experience in campus engagement and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion work including successful projects to provide free menstrual hygiene products in all campus washrooms, the creation of a diverse, intersectional, Equity Committee, and organizing Kamloops' first ever Pride Parade. Dylan loves being involved as much as he can in the community with experience being elected to the Board of the Kamloops Sexual Assault and Counselling Centre, the Board of the Vancouver Pride Society, and volunteering with the Health Initiative for Men's Community Engagement Committee. Dylan has a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Political Science from Thompson Rivers University. In his free time, Dylan loves nerdy strategy and puzzle video games and chill cooperative board games.
Effie Taylor (she/her)has over 10 years of experience both conducting and supporting investigations into sexual harassment, discrimination, respectful workplaces, code of conduct, bullying and harassment and misconduct. She has also conducted workplace reviews in order to address bullying and harassment and ensure a respectful workplace. At the University of British Columbia, Effie worked as part of the Employee Relations team where she provided expert advice to a team of Human Resource professionals as well as facilitating training and workshops on various employment issues. Prior to joining the University of British Columbia in 2018, Effie worked at Air Canada for 18 years where she was appointed as Field Representative to conduct investigations as assigned by the Human Rights and Harassment Office. Effie joined the Investigations Office in October 2021.
Jay Aubrey (they/them) seeks continual growth in their understanding of trauma and identity-related harm. As a lawyer, Jay supported people to assert their rights within the criminal law process. They supported people surviving solitary confinement in Canadian prisons to testify in a constitutional challenge to federal legislation. They worked alongside people experiencing intolerable suffering to protect the constitutional right to medically assisted death. Jay joined UBC as a Human Rights Advisor in 2020. They supported alternative resolution processes between UBC community members. They worked with UBC leaders to create structures and practices that support human rights. Jay joined UBC's Investigations Office in early 2023. Jay graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in 2013; they also hold an undergraduate and graduate degree in gender studies.
June Carter (she/her) is a lawyer with nearly 20 years of private practice and public service experience. She has worked as an investigator for UBC's Investigation Office since 2019, having returned after 8 months at WorkSafeBC as a senior prevention advisor, advising on all matters relating to workplace safety and prevention, including workplace bullying and harassment. Prior to joining UBC, June spent 10 years with the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the RCMP, reviewing and investigating public complaints made against RCMP members. June conducted reviews, managed and undertook complex, high-profile and often sensitive investigations related to a broad range of policing functions, including search and seizure, arrest and detention, criminal investigation quality, use of force, and police involved shootings or serious injury incidents. June also worked as a senior policy analyst for Health Canada, where she helped lead the development and analysis of health policies and regulatory proposals. Prior to joining the public service, June spent 6 years in private practice at a small law firm in Ottawa.
Natasha Merrick (she/her) is an investigator with 18 years of experience. She has developed a deep understanding of the complexities and nuances involved in investigations. Throughout her career, she has been committed to ongoing learning and professional development, recognizing the importance of staying current on laws and best practices in investigations. Natasha places high value on due process and impartiality, ensuring that parties are treated fairly.
Nathalie Funes (she/her) is committed to continue learning and finding knowledge that supports our communities, while unlearning harmful notions that contribute to systemic problems. By joining the Investigations Office, Nathalie hopes to highlight the importance of looking Sexual Violence outside of binaries and beyond the mainstream discourses that leave multiple groups who experience Sexual Violence behind."
Tarn Khare (he/him) completed his undergraduate degree in Economics at Simon Fraser University, and completed Business Analysis certification from UBC's Sauder School of Business. He started at UBC Physics and Astronomy (at the Quantum Matter Institute) in 2012 as an Administrative Assistant where he worked for three years, having assisted in the procurement of $66.5 million in CFREF funding for the institute as well as assisting the transition to a larger scale research facility. From there, Tarn transferred to the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences where he managed the operations of the Mineral Deposit Research Unit for three years. His responsibilities there included managing the financial operations of the unit, year-end accounting, human resources, facilities administration and acting as a liaison between the unit and industry companies. Currently, Tarn is managing the Investigations Office operations, recently completed the Certificate in Diversity & Inclusion, and now working to obtain his certificate in Collaborative Conflict Resolution at the Justice Institute of BC. In his spare time, he loves to cook and spend time with his family.
