LED technology has advanced a great deal over the years to the point where it has become common place to see LEDs used as a light source. LED torches make full use of this progress and the LEDS replace the conventional bulb that used to be found in every torch. In 1999, Lumileds Corporation of the United States, introduced the Luxeon LED, a high-power white-light emitter. This breakthrough made LED torches more efficient in their use of power than conventional torches with bulbs. The first Luxeon LED torch is said to be the Arc LS, designed in 2001. Since the first LED torch became available many more manufacturers have now produced their own LED torches. When the efficiency of LEDs is combined with the latest wind-up technology the resulting torches are very useful indeed.
