I have been fortunate in my career to have worn many different hats. I've worked for large and small organizations, in the public and private sector, led global teams while based in the U.S. and abroad, and have been on the legal, compliance, operations, business management, business development, and relationship management sides of the financial services and investment management industries. I started my career as a prosecutor working for the Bronx District Attorney's Office and the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York. I truly enjoyed being a prosecutor: you had to constantly think on your feet, every day was different, and I was proud of the work I was doing for the public good. I ended up in finance when I joined American Express, initially on the legal side and then on the business side. From there I joined several hedge funds, two of which were multibillion-dollar shops, and became involved in all sides of the business. I have also led a hedge fund allocation firm and was a partner at a regional law firm, where I led the financial advisory practice. I grew up in New York City, the son of immigrants, who showed me the value of hard work, sacrifice, family, and education. I am the first generation to attend college and, thanks to them, I am fluent in Spanish and Italian. The most important thing for me is family. I've been blessed with an amazing wife and four beautiful, healthy children. I've coached their various sports teams for more than twenty years and have loved every minute of it. I am a former U.S. Marine and Iraq War veteran, and I've had the privilege of leading Marines over a long career. I joined the Marine Corps when I was 17 years old, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I gained some of my closest friendships and developed confidence, discipline, leadership skills, and an appreciation for physical fitness. I am also a Knight of Malta. My guiding principle in my business and personal life is integrity, which I try to instill in my children and everything I do. I try to lead by example.

I cover the technology sector from a global perspective, with a focus on software-related companies and how the cloud and other emerging technologies are impacting a wide array of industries. Before working at William O'Neil + Company, I had never really looked at a chart let alone understood how it complemented fundamental research. So much of my work before had centered around valuation. Two books that increased my interest for investing were One Up on Wall Street by Peter Lynch and Edwin Lefevre's Reminiscences of a Stock Operator, about the life of Jesse Livermore. But ultimately I was intrigued most by the O'Neil Methodology and was impressed how well it worked in my own trading. I received a Finance degree from California State University, Northridge and worked in corporate finance. But I couldn't let go of my passion for investing. Although I am a big basketball fan, I now spend less time on the court and more time on my road bike and in the swimming pool. I have two girls with my lovely wife, Jessica. I have a passion for investing. It's a pleasure to find great companies and see how competition, management, and other factors impact their growth over their life cycles. The best part is seeing how this all plays out on their stock charts.

I'm a proud optimist. I never give up and see opportunities rather than obstacles. Whenever I need a reminder that nothing is impossible, I think back to Italy's 1982 World Cup championship. The team went through the toughest rounds of the tournament, beat strong favorites Brazil and Argentina, and defeated Germany in the final. That's victory against all odds. I love what I do. Being able to help investors see results every day and navigate the markets gives me the drive to come into work every day. Combining my experience with O'Neil's successful stock-picking methodology allows me to provide investors with impactful, actionable market insight. I have a solid 20-year background in institutional sales covering the U.S. equity markets. Most recently, I was at Deutsche Bank for 11 years. Before that, I was at Bank of America and Credit Suisse.

I've been reading Investor's Business Daily since business school in 1995 - I'm a big believer in the CAN SLIM method and I read all of William O'Neil's books. I have a CMT and a CFA and as someone credentialed on the technical and fundamental side, his approach resonates with me.

Farhan Arif - Managing Director

Job Titles:
  • Managing Director
At William O'Neil + Company, I manage our largest institutional relationships in Europe. My focus is to help clients stay on the right side of the market. The dot com market crash was the first market meltdown I experienced. I still remember it clearly because it made me realize how quickly the tide can turn, even when the markets are roaring. I'm a big believer in numbers telling you the investment story and over the years, my experience has made me fleet-footed and pragmatic. I'll advise a short on an investment tomorrow on which a client may have a long position today. If that helps add valuable performance points to a client's NAV then I don't care what the critics have to say. To add to that, I believe disagreement in discussions can be good. I'm not afraid to offer a contradicting position if I feel it will help my client. I find that this forces me to become more analytical and rationale in my thinking, continually escalating my thought processes. After getting my MBA in Finance, investment banking was a natural place to start my career. I worked as an equity research analyst covering the TMT space and then an equity proprietary trader before moving into institutional equity sales. Having worked across various roles in the capital markets space helps me better understand clients' needs.

I am an analyst for our Global Focus List Committee, which approves all equity recommendations for developed, emerging, and frontier markets. I am also our lead sector strategist, helping our clients find investable stocks in areas of developing strength throughout the world. As a research analyst, I was able to learn stock picking from William O'Neil himself. I made an effort to become an expert in the O'Neil Methodology, and began picking stocks for our Global Focus List. It was easy to see that our methodology translated well to international markets. The same factors that make stock prices rise and fall here are at work everywhere. I've always been naturally inclined to look for trends or patterns in data, and I majored in Statistics at UC Riverside. After college, I worked as a commodities broker. I love the music scene here in Los Angeles, especially all the great festivals we have. Coachella is my favorite. Off hours, though, you can still find me watching the markets and the news that might affect them. I feel lucky to work in a place where I have access to so much knowledge and information about the world's markets. We take pride in synthesizing a lot of information together to discern what's going on in the world's markets. I try to take advantage of that and learn as much as I can.

I'm excited to be a part of the William O'Neil + Co. team. It is a great firm that attracted me because of its broad financial database, robust services, and open office culture. I cover financial institutions, mainly in the Midwest. The part of this work that I enjoy most is relationship building. I have been fortunate over the years to become very good friends with many of clients and that is extremely rewarding. I am excited to introduce clients to the O'Neil Methodology and help them generate alpha in their portfolios. I have always believed that if you add value for clients, they will be successful, and in turn, we will be successful as well.

When I tell people about my job at WON, I always describe it as a stock broking without boring bits (like super long-term views that are very seldom verified, analyst reports with HOLD recommendations, semi-educated forecasts, etc.). What I like about WON is how fast things happen here, how fast problems are dealt with and solved, how committed everybody is to the common goal: to provide our clients with money-making ideas. Technology is definitely something that sets us apart from our competition - equity screening system PANARAYâ„¢ which covers more than 80,000 stocks and 30,000 EFT's. In my humble opinion it is the best stock-picking system in the market. And the family office friendly atmosphere/culture that really brings out the best in our collective team. Nearly from the beginning of my career (1997 when I joined Citigroup in Warsaw right after graduating from the University of Gdansk), I was in various sales departments. My initial experience was in Treasury products sales, then I moved to equity derivatives and structured products sales. Finally, I moved to cash equity sales and never looked back. My dream of one day becoming a stockbroker in London started when I saw the Capital City series on Polish TV when I lived with my parents in Gdansk, Poland right at the beginning of Poland's transformation in 1989. I was 16 years old. Back then there was no proper banking system in Poland, so I was laughed at when mentioning my future career plans. Eleven years later I started my first job in London. One part that always interested me most in being a broker was stock picking. I had a privilege of running virtual portfolios for my clients and this was something that I enjoyed most. So joining WON - the company that focuses on providing value for clients through the unique proprietary stock-picking methodology was a no-brainer.

Currently I'm the regional lead for the U.S. and I cover the health care sector, looking for potential outperformers from a global perspective.

Richard Crehan

Job Titles:

I manage our relationships with large institutional accounts based in the tri-state area. I was a UK equity strategist in the 1990s, a period marked by the EM debt & LTCM crises, the first Tech bubble and the launch of the Euro. Analyzing and prevailing through this turbulence gave me a broad perspective on the markets, which can be helpful to clients in my current role.

Willliam O'Neil

Willliam O'Neil + Company has thorough, research-based offerings that no other firm has replicated. Mr. O'Neil and his colleagues spent years thoroughly researching how to master an investment approach. The owners have also invested not only in the business but in the things in which they believe - improving technology, exceptional employees, and most importantly, building client relationships. I like the ability to help clients facilitate a better outcome - that simple. For the bulk of sell-side firms, their ability to do that has declined due to a lack of investment in their business and a continuing decrease in product and service differentiation. I have been in the institutional equity business for over 20 years. I have worked for numerous firms that are known for their exhaustive and unique research, like Sanford Bernstein, William Blair, and Credit Suisse.
