She encourages young people to take advantage of any opportunity to give their r time because it about personal satisfaction and a sense of wellbeing.

Nelly Kamene is a 27 years old, born in Jimba village in Kaloleni Sub County. She completed primary education but was not able to proceed to secondary school because her parents lacked school fees. She however managed to secure a scholarship at the Mabati Technical Training Institute to train in Hairdressing and Beauty therapy and worked hard and graduated in 2013 as one of the best Hairdressers and Beauty Therapist. After graduating from MTTI she established a saloon business in Mariakani town which has become a popular Hair and beauty parlour for wedding make-up in the village. As a way of giving back to the community, she decided to take girls from poor backgrounds and supports them to improve their social- economic situation. She opened her doors to many girls including those living and working on the streets by volunteering to support them with training to enable them make the best out of their lives. She is also volunteering her time to mentor trainees currently enrolled at the Mabati Technical Training Institute. She believes that giving back her time is the only best that she is able to appreciate those who supported her and made her what she is today. She is planning to expand her business by diversifying into the importation of cosmetic items to improve services to her customers. She believes Haircare and Beauty Industry has a big opportunity to empower girls and boys from vulnerable backgrounds to earn decent income and improve their living standards.
