has over 20 years' experience as a public defender in South Carolina, and has represented individuals charged with all kinds of crimes, from traffic offenses and drunk driving (DUI) to drug trafficking, manslaughter, rape and murder. From 2008-2012, Mr. Grose served as Chief Public Defender for Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens and Newberry counties in the Eighth Judicial Circuit. In August 2012, Mr. Grose founded the Grose Law Firm and serves clients in Greenwood, Abbeville, Laurens, Newberry, McCormick, Edgefield, and Saluda Counties and surrounding areas. Charles Grose began his legal career as an Associate Attorney for a civil law firm in Charleston, South Carolina. In 1996, he became a Public Defender and Practiced for three years in the Orangeburg County Public Defender's Office. In July 1999, he became the Chief Public Defender for Greenwood and Abbeville Counties. Following the creation of the statewide Indigent Defense System, Charles was selected the Circuit Public Defender of the Eighth Judicial Circuit, which included Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens, and Newberry Counties. Charles is a past President of the South Carolina Public Defender Association. The Public Defender Association honored him as Lawyer of the Year in 2008. On September 25, 2012, the Public Defender Association awarded Charles the Martha Browning Dicus Award for demonstrating the remarkable competence, zeal and adherence to the ideas of the legal profession. Charles is a former member of the Board of Directions of the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is former a member of the Criminal Law Section of the South Carolina Bar, having served as Chairperson in 2005-2006 and 2014-2015. From 2005-2016, Charles served on the Board of Directions of Justice 360, which was formally known as the South Carolina Death Penalty Resource & Defense Center.
