KAKAKURA

Te Kakakura Trust was established in 1996 as a charitable trust owned by Te Rūnaka ki Ōtautahi o Kāi Tahu (the mana whenua tribal council of Christchurch). Since 1936 the Ōtautahi Rūnaka has had a long history of developing social service initiatives in the Christchurch region and throughout Te Waipounamu (the South Island)... Our services are Kaupapa Māori based and exercise customary traditional values, practices and authority. The services are open to all races and ethnic backgrounds who meet the access criteria. Kakakura Health Services embodies the Kāi Tahu whakataukī (proverbial saying): "Aroha ki te Takata", "Love and hospitality to all people".
