Concrete Materials Company began in Lexington, Kentucky in 1931 as Lexington Quarry Company. Founded by L.M. Winges and G.M. Robertson, the small startup had only two one-cubic yard delivery units. During the Great Depression, we even accepted horses as payments on accounts... Just as we built our own strong foundation, we helped build the foundation of the community. Concrete Materials Company has helped build roads, sewers, famous horse farms, and was one of only six concrete plants involved in the construction of Madison County's Bluegrass Army Depot during World War II. After moving to Richmond in 1941, the company continued to play a vital role in the growth of the surrounding community, helping develop the campuses of Eastern Kentucky University and Berea College, as well as parts of I-75...
