North Tyler Developmental Academy serves children of low-income families, whether they are single parents, multiple parents, working or going to school in Smith County. Programs are designed to help their children gain a firm foundation preparing them for pre-school and kindergarten. The programs develop the children mentally, physically, socially and emotionally. North Tyler Developmental Academy started in 1939, as the Nursery School, to assist working mothers and parents with daycare for their children so that the parents could work knowing their children were in a safe and learning environment. The North Tyler Developmental Academy was moved to the Texas College campus where the college donated funds to have a building built for the nursery. In 1996 the nursery changed its name to North Tyler Day Nursery and in 2013 the nursery moved to the old Griffin Elementary School where it has 13 classrooms and a cafeteria... The new facility has 14,000 square feet of classrooms and a 6,000..
