CALGARY APHASIA CENTRE

The Calgary Aphasia Centre (CAC) is a non-profit program created to support and advocate for Calgarians living with aphasia. We run weekly conversation groups at multiple locations that offer clients the opportunity to develop their communication skills and build social connections in a fun, supportive environment. Groups are led by volunteers who have received Supported Conversation for Adults with Aphasia (SCA) training. We focus on enhancing clients' existing skills and developing strategies that will reduce the barriers to their life participation goals. There is no cost to attend our groups... The CAC was established in 2014 with a grant from the Stroke Recovery Association of Alberta (SRAC). At present, we are a program run under the auspices of the SRAC. The CAC is progressing under the direction of a steering committee that includes caregivers, speech-language pathologists and stroke survivors.
