Education and training matters. Every year hundreds of thousands of people undertake nationally funded programmes either through school or college or the work-based route. Competition for places is ever more intense as the government strives to control costs, increase the level of skills in the workforce, and the preparedness of those in education for the world of work. Meanwhile society, and the world of work, are changing. I want to ensure that education and training is well suited to learners and meets employers' needs. I want to ensure that qualifications allow learners not only to fulfill their potential, but to have a rewarding and worthwhile experience while doing so... I understand qualifications and most parts of the education and training world.
