THREE SPIRES MEDICAL PRACTICE - Key Persons
Alex studied in Cambridge and King's College London, qualifying in 2003. He provides a full range of medical services.
He works at the Acute GP in the hospital, and also at clinics seeing children with eating disorders and obesity problems. He has an interest in evidence-based medicine.
Dr Fell qualified in 2003 from University College London. She has worked as a GP in Bristol, Brighton and is now very happy to be a GP in Cornwall. She provides a full range of services for the practice. She spends part of her working week in the hospital as an Acute GP and works for the Referral Management Service.
In her spare time she enjoys netball, running and spending time with her family
Dr Katie Shepherd completed GP Training in Cornwall in 2020. Initially working in Newquay she moved to Three Spires in 2021 as a salaried GP. She qualified from St Bartholomew's and The Royal London in 2007 and later completed her MRCP followed by work in Australia. Prior to starting General Practice she worked in Respiratory Medicine and continues to have an interest in this.
Dr Patrick Black qualified in August 2000 from Cardiff and prior to working in General practice he had lots of surgical experience in South Wales and the South West. At present he lives near Truro and has a young family, he plays most sports and golf (badly) and enjoys the beaches and outdoor life. His interests are dermatology, diabetes and minor surgery. Dr Black will be performing surgical procedures at Three Spires as well as General practice.
Dr Richard Pratt trained at St George's University of London. Following initial training at Torbay hospital he spent a year working in the British Virgin Islands. He then returned to Cornwall to complete his GP training. In addition to his clinical work, he has a number of other allied interests. He is the regional representative for the RCGP First5 scheme, which focuses on professional development and support of GPs in their first 5 years post-qualification. He enjoys training and examination of medical students. Of particular interest to him is the use of technology, such as smartphone apps, in providing better patient care.
Dr Faulkner trained at Newcastle university medical school and qualified as a doctor in 2004 and qualified as a GP in 2014. She moved down to Cornwall with her family, where she has worked as a GP since, mainly in Helston Medical Centre until moving to Three Spires in October 2022. She has also done Out of Hours General Practice and Urgent Care based at Camborne Redruth Community Hospital.

Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are becoming more involved in the care of patients in General Practice. Having the pharmacy team working in our surgery provides valuable medicines support, a close link with our community pharmacy teams and allows our GPs to focus their skills and time where they are most needed for patients who have more complex needs. Pharmacists are experts in medicines and can talk to you about how to get the best from your medicines.

Practice Nurses are fully trained in a wide range of skills including immunisations, health promotion, contraception and management of long-term conditions e.g. advice on diet and lifestyle choices, coronary heart disease, hypertension, asthma, diabetes, smoking cessation and obesity. Practice Nurses can extend their skills at Diploma Level and see many patients who previously would have seen the Doctor.
The Nursing Team run various Nurse-led clinics for diabetes, asthma, coronary heart disease and COPD as well as providing general nursing services, dressings, removal of sutures and blood tests.
We have a team of five highly experienced physiotherapists who are supported by two physiotherapy assistants and a clerical/administration support worker.
