SEBASTIAN MATTHIAS
Updated 26 days ago
Sebastian Matthias studied dance at the Juilliard School in New York and danced at the Nuremberg State Theater and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. This was followed by dance studies at the Free University Berlin (MA). Since then he works as a freelance choreographer with production houses or institutions such as Sophiensaelen Berlin or CORPUS / Royal Danish Ballet. The artistic-scientific research approach in his choreographic practice provided the basis for his dissertation project at Hafen City University Hamburg that is published by transcript with the title " Gefühlter Groove - Kollektivität zwischen Dancefloor und Bühne" in 2018. In his choreographic work, he deals with modular improvisation systems, which he develops collectively with the dancers. His first music theater production "Marienvesper" by Claudio Monteverdi premiered in 2017 at Lucerne Festival.
