MARSHALL EYE CARE - Key Persons
Dr. Brian Marshall is certified as a therapeutic optometrist and an optometric glaucoma specialist. He has been in practice for over 30 years. After graduating with honors from the University of Houston College of Optometry, he completed a residency in Cornea and Advanced Contact Lens Practice and later a fellowship in Refractive Surgery. He served as an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama Birmingham where he became Chief of the Corneal and Contact Lens Service. There he was involved in numerous eye studies and lectured across the country. His main focus was centered around contact lens wear and dry eye. He has written many peer reviewed papers and several book chapters. He is currently on the editorial board for Doody Publishing. After leaving the University of Alabama, Dr. Marshall joined the TLC Laser Center in Connecticut and New York as Center Director where he co-managed over 10,000 refractive surgeries. Dr. Marshall is a fellow of the Academy of Optometry, which is an exclusive organization limited to the top 6% of optometrists. In 2007, he returned to his home state of Texas. His hobbies include photography, bicycling and scuba diving. He is married and has two beautiful children.

Dr. Courtney Cates is originally from Amarillo, Texas and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M; University. She then attended the prestige University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry where she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree and graduated with academic honors in 2017.
During Optometry school, Dr. Cates was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society and received the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) Award of Excellence in Vision Therapy. This is an exclusive award given to only one student.
Upon completion of her Doctorate of Optometry, she was accepted and completed a distinguished Residency in Neuro-Vision Rehabilitation and Pediatrics and Vision Therapy at Neuro-Vision Associates of North Texas in Plano. This additional year of specialized training provided her with the knowledge and skills to manage patients with eye teaming and tracking disorders, vision-related learning problems, and acquired and traumatic brain injuries. Dr. Cates has extensive experience in eye care for pediatric and adult patients, sports vision, vision therapy services and eye care for special needs children. She enjoys working with patients of all ages, but has a specialized focus and passion for working with children.
Dr. Cates is a member of the American Optometric Association/Texas Optometric Association, the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) and the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA). She is dedicated to the specialty of developmental eye care but is also therapeutically licensed in Texas and Glaucoma Certified.
Dr. Cates enjoys cooking, traveling, watching Aggie football and loves spending time with her family.
Dr. Tina Marshall is certified as a therapeutic optometrist and an optometric glaucoma specialist. She have been in practice for over 20 years. She earned her degree through the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. She has done extensive training in ocular disease, refractive surgery, and pediatrics. She is honored to have been selected to provide eye care for a Veteran's Hospital in Connecticut. She later earned an advanced certification in low vision care through the Lighthouse for the Blind in Manhattan, New York. Dr. Marshall works hard to stay current on the latest advances in eye health and vision care and regularly attends continuing education seminars and advanced training courses. It is because of her dedication to eye care that her patients receive the most modern and progressive vision care available. Before pursuing a degree in Optometry, Dr. Marshall was a research biologist. She co-authored a book and published several scientific articles. She enjoys cooking, traveling and spending time with her family.
