Trademark executive Dao Huyen Linh handles trademark registration, searches and related non-contentious advisory matters in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Based in our Vietnam office, she provides the full range of trademark services to clients seeking protection in these three jurisdictions. Dao provides local expertise in jurisdictions where international clients may otherwise be caught out by ‘first-to-file' trademark systems. She will provide assessment to clients prior to application so that any difficulties caused by this may be avoided. Subsequently, she will assist clients by reporting and responding to Office Actions efficiently, advising on respective national registries' examination procedures.

David Reed

As Emeritus Consultant, David Reed is in charge of staff training and works with management in promoting the services of Mirandah Asia in Singapore, Malaysia, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines and across Asia. David Reed hails from Chicago. He was with a large transnational corporation for almost 40 years prior to being appointed as Mirandah Asia's Consultant. He graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and completed post-graduate training in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. His introduction to the legal field came in 1980 when he was placed on special assignment as the technical advisor to outside counsel in relation to a number of product liability lawsuits and eventually several patent litigation cases. He was formally transferred to the Patent Division (now the IP Division) in 1987 and became registered before the United States Patent & Trademark Office as a Patent Agent in 1988, and joined the section responsible for international patent filing and prosecution. A short time later he was promoted to manage the foreign filing and prosecution department with responsibility for filing and prosecution in Canada, Latin America, Middle East, Asia and the Pacific regions. David has gained tremendous amount of experience in the provisions of the PCT. Over the course of managing the preparation, filing, and national/regional phase entry of over 8,000 PCT applications, he has utilized all of the available features of the PCT and has probably stumbled into and successfully managed his way out of most issues that exists under the PCT. Because of this experience, he has been invited to speak on foreign patent practice, with concentration on PCT practice for organizations such as, American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), Intellectual Property Owners Association, Licensing Executives Society (LES), plus a host of individual regional patent/IP law associations. He also teaches the basic and advanced PCT course for the Patent Resources Group (PRG). He has lectured on PCT practice around the world including the countries of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Trinidad & Tobago, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, and Uruguay.

As a Director, Denise Mirandah has played a major role in the international promotion of the company, helping to share the family values of Mirandah Asia and its successful one-stop shop approach to IP with clients all over the world. A keen writer and legal contributor, Denise regularly writes about Asian IP and edited pmc connects, the in-house newsletter, updating clients on developments in Asian IP matters. She has also gained experience as an editorial assistant for the Singapore Law Review. She now continues her role as the editor of the company monthly newsletter, Lawwatch. Denise is a core member of the Law & Practice Asia-Pacific Subcommittee, which is an integral part of the International Trademark Association Bulletin Committee, as well as being member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and Intellectual Property Owners Association. She also represents the company at Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance ("GALA") meetings as the Singapore representative together with Patrick Mirandah who is GALA representative for Malaysia. Always with an eye on future progress, Denise uses her experience to take on the challenge of mentoring younger staff at the company. Denise has been admitted to the Bar in Singapore since 2009, and in Brunei as of 2017.

Emilia M. Lorenzo

As Head of Patent and Industrial Design Department, Emilia M. Lorenzo plays a significant role in ensuring that local and international clients can protect their patent and design filings in the Philippines. She has substantial experience in the IP field and passes on this experience to benefit her team. Emilia M. Lorenzo is also part of the team that pioneered the handling of renewals for foreign clients, resulting in renewals being fully entrusted to the Philippines office. Besides serving her clients, she also plays a key role in training and growing Mirandah Asia's renewals operations, leading the team in the Manila office, ensuring that all deadlines are punctually met. Prior to joining Mirandah Asia, Emilia worked in various roles in different industries before joining a law firm that enabled her to hone her skills in IP rights. Over the next 13 years, she received extensive training and experience in the prosecution of patent, design and trademark registrations as well as renewal and post-registration for patents and trademark cases. Adding to her experience, she has worked with locally based firms for over 10 years, handling various trademark registration matters. In her spare time, Emilia can be found curled up with a good book or cooking up a storm in her kitchen. She is also an avid traveller.

Harini Balasubramanyam

She is also responsible for prosecution matters and brand protection. Harini Balasubramanyam hails from Chennai, a vibrant city in South India. She graduated from VIT School Of Law, Chennai with a Bachelor's degree in Law and Business Administration. She then went on to pursue her LL.M in Cross-border Business and Finance Laws from Singapore Management University. At Mirandah Asia, she manages portfolios of brands ranging from MNCs to SMEs operating in a variety of industries across ASEAN countries. She is also responsible for prosecution matters and brand protection. Harini routinely advises clients on strategies to overcome refusals and conducts conflict and pre-filing searches. She is determined to deliver to her clients a well-thought through analysis and takes great pride in adding value to clients' trademark portfolios with her knowledge of the unique and local trademark laws and practices. In her free time, Harini finds solace in painting and embracing her creative expression in the world of digital art. She also actively partakes in hiking and volunteers in sustainability programs.

Hilmi Zaini

At mirandah asia, Hilmi advises on prosecution matters and coordinates filing for patents and designs in various ASEAN jurisdictions. He supports both local and international clients in preparing responses to registry Office Actions across the region. Hilmi Zaini graduated with a Bachelor in Biological Sciences from Nanyang Technological University, diving headfirst into the Intellectual Property (IP) sector as a patent executive at a local law firm. His interest in IP developed further, leading him to pursue a Master in IP and Innovation Management from the Singapore University of Social Sciences, with a specialisation in Patent Agency. He then went on to graduate and was the recipient of the IP Office of Singapore Gold Award for topping his cohort. At Mirandah Asia, he is involved in supporting clients in overcoming objections raised in Office Actions by registries across the ASEAN region. Hilmi is proud to use his experience to advise both local and international clients in various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and semiconductors. Hilmi speaks fluent English and Malay. During his free time, Hilmi enjoys various activities, including watching nature documentaries, reading murder mystery novels, or having a relaxing stroll or jog through the park.

His knowledge of local languages is an asset in dealing with the IPO. He is involved in recruiting new staff to join the Mirandah Asia family, hiring young trainees and mentoring them under his wing to ensure that they can grow holistically in tandem with the company, to create and maintain the close-knit, loyal staff base that mirandah asia is proud to have. Ian regularly travels to meet and maintain relationships with overseas clients, both at international conferences and at client HQs. Recently, for example, he travelled to Switzerland to meet a client from the pharmaceutical industry - delivering the good news that they had just won a major patent litigation in Singapore! At Mirandah Asia, Ismeth handles trademark applications and liases with officers at the Malaysian Registry. Ismeth holds a Bachelor Degree in Law from the University of Hull. Prior to joining Mirandah Asia, he served as a Trademark Executive in a Malaysian firm. There, his duties included preparing legal documents, applications and letters to Malaysian Intellectual Property Department. He also composes and revises legal documents and ensures that those documents are processed and handled in a timely manner.

Ivan Jonathan

At Mirandah Asia, Ivan manages clients' trademark portfolios across a wide variety of sectors, assisting clients with the prosecution and protection of their brands across ASEAN. After graduating with a Bachelor of Laws LL.B (Hons) degree from the University of London in 1999, Ivan joined Mirandah Asia the following year as a Legal Executive and spent the next 5 years developing as well as honing his skills as a Trademarks specialist. He left to further his career with other notable boutique Intellectual Property legal firms where he gained a great degree of knowledge, insight and experience in the areas of Patents, Industrial Designs, Franchising as well as Copyrights. In addition, he also gained valuable experience in the area of IP enforcement, having assisted with as well as organized numerous raid actions for several notable brands together with the relevant enforcement authorities. The experience and knowledge gained over the years led him to return to Mirandah Asia. Ivan re-joined Mirandah Asia and manages clients' trademark portfolios across a wide variety of sectors, assisting clients with the prosecution and protection of their brands across ASEAN. Ivan spends his leisure time either in the garden, going for a run with his kids or catching up on some reading.
