ENERKITE

We combine a skinned carbon rib structure with a semi-rigid design - i.e. we do not transfer the forces centrally but via several points on the wing. The result is the optimum of low wing weight, durability and good aerodynamics . EnerKíte is the highest-yielding airborne wind energy concept currently under development... Carbon fiber reinforced plastic provides the best combination of weight and strength. We manage, with our partner, to manufacture the wings in a fully automated process... Our system works with three tethers, which adjust the angle of attack and control the direction of flight. The tether drums rotate due to the traction forces in the harvesting flight, which drives the generator. During retrieval, the generator acts as a motor and rewinds the tether.
