Alexander Berstein works as Of Counsel in the area of international corporate law and compliance and is a member of our firm's U.S. desk. Alex lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his family and represents our firm in all U.S.-related matters. He assists individuals, companies and organizations with corporate law issues in cross-border legal cases, particularly with respect to North and South America as well as immigration and emigration to the United States. In this context, he advises on German and U.S. corporate law and on all issues relating to the opening of branches in North America. Alex is an expert in venture capital issues and is always available to advise and support clients in these matters. Alex is a German attorney and, prior to joining WINHELLER, worked for an international law firm in Munich and as in-house counsel for a leading German financial services provider. He also brings further valuable experience through his work in several fintechs with a broad international focus, where he was able to support his clients in particular with regulatory challenges in a national and international context, including a focus on cryptocurrency and NFTs. Alexander Romanov is a graduate of the Faculty of Economics of the Moscow State Lomonosov University, where he earned his doctorate on the topic of "International Economics and the Financial and Banking System". He worked intensively on national and international financial programs to overcome infrastructural barriers to economic growth, on financial support for small and medium-sized enterprises as well as on the implementation of energy efficiency programs launched by the development institutes of Germany (KfW) and Italy (CDP). Before joining WINHELLER, Kornelia Berg worked for many years in a Frankfurt law firm which, in addition to providing legal advice to numerous financial service providers, handled the complete accounting, annual financial statements and the entire banking regulatory reporting system. She was also an in-house lawyer at a securities trading bank, where she was also responsible for accounting, annual financial statements and regulatory reporting and played a key role in the development of in-house software for booking securities transactions. Until 2021, Kornelia Berg worked as legal counsel in the legal department of a banking association. There, she provided comprehensive advice on banking regulatory issues and was involved in the implementation of European and German law requirements into practical solutions for the credit institutions affiliated with the association. She studied law at the Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main and was admitted to the bar in 1999.
