Dr. Bill Epstein

Dr. Bill Epstein is a pioneer in his field and was the first surgeon in the Rogue Valley to offer folding lens technology to his patients, allowing rapid recovery of vision and decreased dependence on glasses following cataract surgery. He continues to offer his patients the most advanced care possible. Soon after Dr. Bill Epstein founded the Siskiyou Eye Center he adopted folding lens technology. He became the first surgeon in the Rogue Valley to use this surgical advance on virtually all of his patients. This allowed rapid recovery of vision and decreased dependence on glasses. He continues to practice aspects of general ophthalmology. "I love what I do, not just the practice of ophthalmology, but also the relationships I have with my patients. I believe that lens implant surgery is a unique way to restore their youthful vision." While completing his surgical residency at Stanford Dr. Epstein was introduced to international ophthalmology. He subsequently worked as a medical volunteer performing cataract surgery in multiple developing nations in Asia and South America. Dr. Epstein and his wife Sarah live in a net-zero energy home near Ashland. They received the Oregon Tree Farmer of the Year award for their progressive forestry practices. Dr. Epstein enjoys both the access to wilderness and the many cultural opportunities that the Rogue Valley offers. Their daughter and two grown sons live in Oregon.

Dr. David England

Since 2003, therapeutic optometrist Dr. David England has provided complete primary eye-care services, including comprehensive eye exams and the treatment of eye-related medical conditions in a busy medical setting. "It's extremely rewarding to improve a person's overall quality of life by helping them see everything and everyone more clearly." Dr. England specializes in helping patients with complex spectacle and contact lens requirements, determining which type of lens is best for their condition, lifestyle and individual needs. Dr. England is committed to making sure his patients understand their diagnosis and any recommended treatments, and takes the time necessary to provide clear explanations and answer questions. Dr. England earned his Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston, graduating with honors. Following graduation, he provided primary eye care to U.S. soldiers and their families at the Fox Army Health Center at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. During this time, he was involved in training optometry students from the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Optometry.

Dr. Jared Fredrickson

Dr. William Epstein and Dr. Robert Ewing began working together while training at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Epstein started Siskiyou Eye Center in 1983 to provide the residents of Southern Oregon and Northern California with exceptional medical and surgical eye care. Following a prestigious glaucoma fellowship at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, Dr. Ewing joined Dr. Epstein at the Siskiyou Eye Center. Dr. David England, Dr. Jeffrey Welder, and Dr. Jared Frederickson have since joined the practice bringing with them a wealth of experience and expertise. Dr. Jared Fredrickson joined the practice in 2022. He completed his residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University where he received the GME Professionalism Award over 600 other physicians. He specializes in the latest treatment technologies for cataract surgery as well as minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. Dr. Jared Fredrickson provides comprehensive eye care with a focus on cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration. He provides the latest cutting-edge technology for both cataract surgery as well as minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. "It is both exciting and extremely humbling that I have the opportunity to improve and restore patient's vision each and every day." He has been commended for his personable attitude and patient education. As a chief resident he won the GME Professionalism Award out of over 600 other resident physicians. Dr. Fredrickson has published in the medical journals as well as helped develop a study aid for American Academy of Ophthalmology to assist other ophthalmologists when studying for their board exams. Having graduated from medical school in Colorado and residency in New York, Dr. Fredrickson has experienced the practice of medicine across the country with many diverse populations and strives to provide quality care to all his patients. Dr Fredrickson enjoys the outdoors as well as photography. When he is not seeing patients, he can usually be found with his family or on his mountain bike. He especially enjoys exploring Southern Oregon's diverse range of outdoor adventures and capturing the awe-inspiring scenery with his camera.

Dr. Jeffrey Welder

Dr. Jeffrey Welder came to Siskiyou Eye Center in 2015 after completing his residency at the University of Iowa, consistently one of the top three programs in the country. He brings expertise in managing complex and rare conditions and provides the highest level of medical and surgical care. Dr. Jeff Welder trained at the prestigious University of Iowa and provides sophisticated and individualized care for patients. He enjoys all aspects of eye care, with special interest and experience in cataract surgery and glaucoma treatment and surgery along with retinal and oculoplastics procedures.

Dr. Robert Ewing

A graduate of Stanford's ophthalmic residency program, Dr. Rob Ewing has a special interest and experience in modern refractive cataract surgery using leading edge technologies and techniques to provide the best visual results, customized to each individual's needs. He was the first surgeon in San Francisco to use folding lens technology. A graduate of Stanford's ophthalmology residency program, Dr. Ewing was the first physician in San Francisco to perform a cataract operation using a foldable lens implant, a minimally invasive procedure now routinely used to treat cataracts on an outpatient basis. He has special interest and experience in modern refractive cataract surgery, using leading edge technologies and techniques to provide the best visual results, customized to each individual's needs. Before joining the Siskiyou Eye Center, Dr. Ewing, also a fellowship trained glaucoma specialist, served as a regional glaucoma expert for the Kaiser-Permanente Medical Group, treating the most complex and difficult glaucomas. He was also Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Stanford and enjoyed teaching Stanford ophthalmology residents. An outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Ewing enjoys riding mountain and road bikes, as well as hiking, camping and photography.
