Adam Sigouin

Since joining the firm in 2016 Adam provides a diverse range of accounting, financial reporting, and assurance services for many of the firm's larger clients. Adam enjoys interacting with clients and gaining an in-depth knowledge of their businesses in order to provide meaningful, personalized service. Adam graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2016. He earned his Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 2019. In his spare time Adam enjoys the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

Alan Priest

Alan heads up the taxation team at Powell Jones LLP, and focuses his own practice on owner-managed businesses. As a Farm Advisor , he has an interest in the agricultural sector and also brings the personal experience of growing up on a farm right here in Simcoe County. A lifelong resident of the area, he appreciates the proximity to the best that Ontario has to offer, and plays hockey, baseball and golf. Alan graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics in 1986 and received his CA Degree in 1987. Alan received his CFP (Certified Financial Planner) degree in 1998. Prior to joining Powell Jones LLP in 1987, he practiced with a national accounting firm in Toronto.

Carly Gatrell

Carly provides accounting, financial reporting and auditing services. She services a diverse base of clients with a focus on not-for profit organizations, professionals, farms and other service organizations. Carly enjoys building and maintaining relationships with clients and offers a practical approach to accounting. She enjoys working with clients throughout the year on special issues in addition to their year-end requirements. As an assurance practitioner, Carly has experience with accounting standards for private enterprises and accounting standards for pension plans. Carly has an in-depth knowledge of accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations and other areas specific to not-for-profit organizations and charities. Carly graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 2005 with a Bachelor of Administrative and Commercial Studies. Carly joined Powell Jones LLP in 2006 and earned her CPA, CA designation in 2009.

Chris Hummel

Chris Van Niekerk

Chris provides accounting, financial reporting, compliance and auditing services to the firm's small and medium sized businesses. He works with a diverse client base including retail, tradespersons, manufacturing, car dealerships, and not for profit organizations. He enjoys building relationships with owner-managers and providing solutions so owners can put emphasis on operating and growing their business rather than being bogged down with compliance and administration. After graduating from the University of Guelph with a degree in economics, Chris attended York University to complete his accounting courses. He joined Powell Jones LLP in 2008 and earned his CA designation in 2010. Prior to joining Powell Jones, Chris worked with a several Barrie businesses in their accounting departments. Born and raised in Barrie, Chris, his wife Kristen and his young family enjoy being part of the community and all the amenities Barrie and area has to offer. Chris is an avid sports fan and enjoys playing hockey, golf and snowboarding. He is a proud member and Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Barrie and serves as Treasurer for Simcoe County Youth Reach. In 2015 Chris had a serious accident where he fainted and fell in a campfire and suffered severe burns to his face, neck and chest. With the help of his family, friends and medical community, he has recovered from the accident and wears his scars proudly.

Don Edward

Don is a former Partner and longtime practitioner with the firm. He retired from full time practice in June 2015. He occasionally works on special projects requested by clients with whom he has had a long term advisory role.

Greg Ferguson

In 2023 Greg retired as a Partner of Powell Jones LLP. Although no longer working full time he continues to advise his clients in areas such as mergers and acquisitions, succession planning, strategic planning, estate planning and trust administration. In 2019 Greg was awarded the professions highest honour, the Fellow (FCPA) designation in recognition for his contributions to the Barrie community and CPA profession. Greg remains active in the community. He is currently the Chair of the Barrie Police Services Board and Treasurer of Collier Place Senior Residence. He is the past President and Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Barrie-Kempenfelt, past President and Treasurer of the Seasons Centre for Grieving Children and past Treasurer of Gilda's Club - Simcoe Muskoka.

Kimberley Smith

One of the areas of focus of Kim's practice is the provision of audit, accounting, tax and other compliance reporting services to a diverse client base of owner managed businesses including manufacturers, wholesalers, professionals, service and agricultural businesses, as well as not-for-profit organizations. A significant portion of Kim's practice is also devoted to assisting clients with personal, estate and corporate tax planning; developing and implementing tax efficient plans with respect to incorporations of existing businesses, corporate reorganizations, amalgamations, wind-ups and completing the related compliance filings in a timely manner; and providing advisory services with respect to the purchase and sale of businesses. Kim has completed the CPA In-Depth Tax Course, Advanced Tax Issues for Owner Managed Businesses course and Corporate Reorganizations Course. Kim is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, serves on the board of the Innisfil Skating Club as treasurer and is a member of the Finance committee for Season's Centre for Grieving Children. Kim graduated from McMaster University with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in 1995. Upon graduation, she practiced with a national accounting firm in Hamilton and received her CA degree in 1999. After obtaining her CA degree, Kim, who grew up on a local family farm, returned to the area, married a local farmer and joined Powell Jones LLP in 2001.

Larry Jones

Larry was one of the founding members of Powell Jones LLP, joining the firm in 1967. While Larry retired from the partnership and full time practice in 2005, he continues to be a mentor to the senior professionals at Powell Jones LLP. He remains an instrumental part of the firm's asset administration and is still sought for advice by many of the firm's oldest clients. Larry's leadership extends well beyond the offices of Powell Jones LLP and his contributions to our community are too numerous to list. He remains a long-time member of the Barrie Rotary Club and Midhurst United Church. Larry earned his CA degree in 1966.

Liz Noonan

Liz joined Powell Jones in 2013 with a number of years of experience working in both public practice and in industry. Since joining the firm Liz has provided accounting and auditing services to a varied base of clients in manufacturing and retail industries as well as to many not-for-profit organizations. Liz enjoys creating relationships with clients and learning about their business to provide useful and practical advice. Liz graduated from McMaster University with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in 1991. After graduation she worked with a national accounting firm in Hamilton and received her CA designation in 1994. She moved back to her home town of Barrie in 2002 after starting her family. Liz enjoys volunteer work and giving back to her community. She is currently serving on the Board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals of Central Ontario as the treasurer. She is thankful to be living and working in Barrie where she grew up. In her leisure time she loves to camp and be involved in outdoor activities with her family.

Megan Boswarva

Megan joined Powell Jones LLP in 2018 as a CPA student on the assurance team. During her time at Powell Jones LLP Megan has gained experience with various types of clients in the not-for profit, manufacturing and retail automotive sectors while creating and maintaining strong client relationships. Megan graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Laurentian University in 2016. She obtained her Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 2021. Megan is a long-term resident of Ramara, enjoys spending time with her pets, enjoys the outdoors and is always looking for a new project to tackle.

Michael Blackburn

Mike joined Powell Jones LLP's assurance group in 2014, providing accounting, financial reporting, and audit services for clients operating in the manufacturing, building supply, and retail automotive industries. Mike also regularly assists with providing assurance services for the firm's local not-for-profit engagements. With a solutions-oriented approach, he enjoys assisting clients in solving problems and improving efficiencies.

Scott MacKay

Scott is a former Partner and longtime practitioner of the firm. He retired from full time practice in January 2020. He continues his area of expertise in overseeing mortgage investments. He occasionally works on special projects requested by clients with whom he has had a long-term advisory role.

Tonya Pearce - CEO

Tonya is currently the Managing Partner of Powell Jones LLP. Tonya provides accounting, financial reporting and auditing services to the firm's owner-manager clientele, including manufacturers, service businesses, professionals and retail automotive businesses. Her practice also includes several not-for-profit organizations & charities. She has enjoyed the variety of working with a diverse client base, and applies her learning from one business to the next in order to find creative solutions to problems. Tonya has strong technical knowledge and is very familiar with the accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE), the accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (ASNFP) as well as the Canadian auditing standards (CAS). A significant portion of her practice relates to the preparation of audit and review engagements. She volunteers with several fundraising initiatives in the Barrie area, and has also served as treasurer for numerous board of directors. She is a past President of the Rotary Club of Barrie-Kempenfelt Tonya graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2003. Immediately upon graduation, Tonya joined Powell Jones LLP and earned her CA designation in 2006. When writing her CA examinations in 2005 she was a member of the National Honour Roll as a result of her achievement on the UFE examination.
