Born in Japan and came to the Bay Area at age 5. She started singing at age 13. She has been singing as part of several community choirs including The Choral Project and Resounding Achord. While Yumiko sang with the Choral Project, the choir was invited to participate in the 2011 International Concorso Competition in Tolosa, Spain. Yumiko graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance.
She has been serving as the conductor of Kakehashi since 2015.
