Experience Frank's an accomplished Silicon Valley technology and business lawyer with broad experience handling a full range of legal matters including commercial transactions, technology licensing, securities law compliance, corporate finance, litigation management, and HR matters. He began his legal career at Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich and Rosati, then joined a client as in-house counsel and went on to serve as general counsel for four different companies, shepherding them through major transactions, disputes, investigations, and other matters, while overseeing sales and licensing programs, SEC and regulatory compliance, corporate maintenance, and IP protection. Now he's enjoying the opportunity to use his accumulated expertise to provide top-tier but very high-value legal services to a variety of interesting companies. Education A Northern California native, Frank attended the University of California, Davis for a bachelor's degree in Economics, with an unofficial minor in Computer Science. After working for PG&E for a few years, he went back to UC Davis for a law degree. Many years later, he still feels he learns something new every day.

Joshua A. Lipp - Founder, President

Experience Joshua Lipp is a seasoned transactional attorney and an innovator in providing legal services to technology companies. After working at Silicon Valley's premier firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Joshua served as general counsel to Mindmaker, Inc., and later Resonate, Inc., who Joshua helped take public in 2000. In 2002, Joshua began providing legal services on a new model: outsourced in-house counsel. Since then, Joshua has built a team of lawyers and contracts negotiators who have provided help to over 200 companies. In 2014, Joshua formed JDCounsel to continue to address the legal needs of companies from early start-ups to the Fortune 500. Education After growing up in North Miami Beach, Florida, Joshua came west to attend Stanford University, where he received his degree in political science (B.A., 1989). During his junior year, Joshua studied with Stanford in Salamanca at the University of Salamanca, Spain. During the summer of 1987, Joshua studied in Germany on a Bridge of Understanding Scholarship. Joshua later attended UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law (J.D. 1992), and later clerked for U.S. District Judge John S. Rhoades in San Diego. Joshua lives in Redwood City with his wife, and his two children are at or out of college. Katia Bloom

Experience Katia Bloom is a fast-paced and strategic commercial lawyer who thrives in high-growth environments and on challenging the notion that it can't be done. Currently, Katia works as a consulting General Counsel for a variety of clients, and has experience advising clients at both private and public companies on a myriad of commercial issues. Previously, she was the Associate General Counsel at ForgeRock, headed up legal for Avira, Inc., was a founding partner at E Squared Law Group working with numerous start-up clients, and started her legal career as in-house counsel at Anesiva. She was also a law clerk for both U.S. Magistrate Judge James Larson, and with the U.S. Attorney's Office. Katia has spoken on a variety of topics such as Crossing the Atlantic: Navigating the Rough Litigation Waters in the United States and Europe and Binding Corporate Rules and Cross-Border Data Transfers. She has also channeled her love of writing by regularly co-authoring feature articles for the ACC Docket Magazine, and the career and technology column for the popular legal blog Above the Law. Some of her published articles for the ACC Docket include Transferring Personal Data Out of the European Union: Which Export Solution Best Fits Your Needs, and Common Pitfalls of Export Compliance. Education Katia obtained her B.S from DePaul University in Chicago. She received her J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law, with certification in International Law, with distinction. She was a member of the Jesse W. Carter Society Member (awarded to the top 15% of class), and received both merit and Rensch scholarships. She was the editor of the Annual Survey of Comparative and International Law, Volume XIV where she published her first legal article: The Classification of Hezbollah in Both International and Non-International Armed Conflicts. Katia is a winner of the prestigious Association of Corporate Counsel Top 10 Thirty-Something Award: a national award recognizing in-house counsel between the ages of 30 and 39 for their innovation, approach to challenges, well-rounded perspectives, contributions to the in-house community, and pro bono and volunteer work. She was also awarded the Jonathan S. Silber Network Member of the Year Award recognizing participation in committee leadership, advancement of recruitment and participation efforts, development of network programs and resources, contributions to the ACC/in-house practice, and volunteer work or pro bono activities that benefit the community. Katia was also a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel San Francisco Bay Area chapter leadership team. Katia grew up in Riga, Latvia and moved to the United States with the wave of Jewish refugee migrants from the Soviet Union. In addition to time spent living in Latvia and the United States, Katia lived in Spain and considers herself an honorary Spaniard. She is the mother of two daughters and serves as a trustee on the executive committee of the Board of Directors of their school, the Lycée Français de San Francisco. Katia is an artist and linguist. She speaks 3 languages fluently (Russian, Spanish and English) and is currently in the process of learning both French and Hebrew.

Liz Stewart

Experience Liz Stewart is a seasoned Silicon Valley tech counsel who regularly serves as "outside general counsel" or as an extension of her client's internal legal team. After starting her practice in intellectual property litigation with Skjerven, Morrill, et al., she moved to the business side with the technology transactions group at Cooley LLP. She then held a number of in-house positions, including V.P., General Counsel of a semiconductor start-up where she regularly interacted with the Board and investors. She advises public and private companies in a variety of technologies, including software, SaaS and artificial intelligence, and supports her clients' revenue growth through negotiation of commercial and technology transactions for sales and business development teams. She has helped position many of her clients for successful acquisition events. She has a broad skill set that includes board and executive advising, litigation management and employee matters. Education Liz grew up in Atlanta, Georgia where she graduated from The Westminster Schools. She received her B.A. in English from Emory University and her J.D. from The University of Georgia School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude and was a member of Georgia Bar Review and Order of the Coif.
