Adam K. Schulze

Age 11, of Dawson Road, Fort Loramie, Ohio, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his residence early Thursday morning, November 9, 2023. He was born January 30, 2012, in Sidney, Ohio, to Ryan & Kristi (Platfoot) Schulze who survive. Also surviving are four brothers: Tyler, Zack, Derek and Isaac Schulze; grandparents, Frank & Cynthia (Shroyer) Platfoot of Jackson Center and Ronald & Victoria (Hilgefort) Schulze of Fort Loramie; great-grandparents, Ralph & Joann Shroyer of Kettlersville and Margaret Hilgefort of Newport as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by great-grandparents: Robert & Ursula Platfoot, Vernon Hilgefort and Urban & Thelma Schulze. Adam was a 6th grade student of Fort Loramie Elementary School and a recently confirmed member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He was a delightful young man with witty personality. He enjoyed solving math problems, board games, spirited games of cards (usually Euchre) and playing soccer. Adam especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Anthony B. Geise

Age 93, of Greenback Road, Fort Loramie, passed away peacefully of natural causes Monday evening, February 12, 2024, at Fair Haven Shelby County Home in Sidney, Ohio. He was born July 30, 1930, in McCartyville, Ohio, to the late Anthony Sr. & Elizabeth (Siegel) Geise. On October 24, 1964, at St. Henry Catholic Church in St. Henry, Tony married Ann Marie (Delzeith) Geise who preceded him in death on January 21, 2022. Surviving are two children, Mark A. Geise of Sidney and Cheryl & Michael Wade of Anna; two grandchildren, Samantha Wade and Zachary & Lauren Wade along with three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Lincoln and Vivian Wade; three sisters-in-law, Irene Geise of Hamilton, Charlotte Geise of Fairview, TN, and Karen Geise of Minster as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by eight siblings: Ray & Dorothy Geise, Ed & Mildred Geise, Mary & Carl Seger, Victor Geise, Leonard & Martha Geise, Donald Sr. & Margaret Geise, Fred Geise and Kenneth Geise; as well as several sisters & brothers-in-law: Francis Monnin, Rita & Russell Walter, Alvera & Wilmer Denning, Nicholas Delzeith, John & Myra Delzeith, Richard & Dorothy Delzeith, Cletus & Gladys Delzeith, Sylvester & Adeline Delzeith and Cyril & Eileen Delzeith. Mr. Geise was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. In 1992, he retired from the Stolle Corporation in Sidney. Tony was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Fort Loramie American Legion Post #355 where he had been active in the firing squad for many years. In his leisure, "June" especially enjoyed clay bird shooting matches at Walk-Up Country Club.

Anthony R. Luthman

Age 72, of Sharp Road, Sidney, passed away peacefully of natural causes Monday afternoon, December 9, 2024, at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney, Ohio. He was born January 27, 1952, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Vincent & Betty (Schaffner) Luthman. On October 27, 1979, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood, Tony married Mary "Grace" (Pohlman) Luthman who preceded him in death on August 10, 2020. Surviving are four children: Benjamin & Erin (Winner) Luthman of Huntsville, Sarah & Aaron Heilers of Anna, Patrick & Melissa (Gaerke) Luthman of McCartyville and Katelin & Luke Hemmelgarn of Fort Loramie; 19 grandchildren: Alice, Louis, Adam, Anthony, James, Esther and Eleanor Luthman, William, Elijah, Luke and Zeke Heilers, Lilly, Vincent and Jackson Luthman and Carly, Harper, Carter, Ella and Jude Hemmelgarn; several sisters & brothers-in-law: Regina Luthman of Sidney, Norma & Irvin Osterloh of Arkdale, WI, Ruth & Thomas Knapke of Celina, Margie & David Bensman of New Bremen, James & Linda Pohlman of Frenchtown, Donald Heitkamp of Pagosa Springs, CO, Henry & Becky Pohlman of Versailles, Marilyn Pohlman of Russia, Teresa Pohlman of Versailles, Sharon Eyink of Montezuma, Ted & Diane Pohlman of Yorkshire and Sam & Betty Pohlman of Yorkshire along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Luthman as well as sisters and brothers-in-law: Elaine Heitkamp, Nick Pohlman, William Pohlman and David Eyink. Tony was a 1970 graduate of Holy Angels High School and also served in the Ohio National Guard during the Vietnam era. He was owner and operator of Luthman Truck Service and had also been engaged in grain farming all of his working life. Tony was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church where he had been a Eucharistic Minister. He also belonged to the McCartyville Knights of Columbus and the Anna Young Farmers. He was a founding / lifetime member of Anna FFA Alumni and a past officer of the Shelby County Farm Bureau. Tony loved his wife and family; especially interacting with his grandchildren. He was a life-long mechanic and enjoyed keeping the farm machinery in pristine condition.

Barbara Massey

Age 96, of Fort Loramie Swanders Road, Anna, passed away peacefully of natural causes Monday afternoon, January 20, 2025, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. She was born October 30, 1928, in Huntington, Indiana, to the late Paul & Georgianna (Kase) Houser. On June 29, 1952, at St. John Lutheran Church in Columbia City, IN, Barbara married Paul Massey who preceded her in death on December 6, 2008. Surviving are three of four children: Ray & Joan Massey of Anna, Susan Fry (dec.), Rex & Teresa Massey of Groveport, OH, Donna & Rev. Mark Sell of Ballwin, MO; 10 grandchildren: Suzanne & Scott Garrett, Paula & Keith Bey, Jacqueline & Jeff Eilerman, Kimberly Massey, Alex & Rachel Massey, Brian Dierks, Dennis Dierks, Regan & Brandon Schnug, Madison & David Young and Parker Sell along with 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Mason Paul Bey; two siblings, Lois Joan & Hugh Ware and Harold Houser as well as brothers & sisters-in-law, Ward & Claire Massey and Rachel Clinard. Barbara was a 1946 graduate of South Whitley High School (Cleveland Township). In 1975, she acquired RN nursing credentials with high honors from Purdue University of Fort Wayne, IN. While she had primarily been a homemaker, over the years, she also worked at various nursing homes and hospitals. In recent years, she had been a dedicated a care giver for members of her family. Barbara was a devout member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sidney as well as St. John Lutheran Church in Columbia City, IN. She was a funeral luncheon volunteer and long-time blood drive volunteer for the Whitley County Community Blood Center. Barbara was a skilled seamstress and master quilter and had been active in the DORCAS lady's group. She also enjoyed making fancy chocolate candies. She will be remembered for her kind & helpful attitude and for her quiet content servant demeanor.

Barry L. Wolfe

Age 79, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at his home in Houston, Ohio, with his family at his side. He was born in Sidney, Ohio, on January 6, 1946. He is survived by his wife Janice (Durnell) Wolfe whom he married on June 1, 1968, in Sidney, Ohio. Barry was preceded in death by his son Kevin Wolfe (1996), and a great grandson - Abraham Leichty, (2019), as well as father & stepmother, Robert Wolfe & Helen (Santa) Wolfe and his mother & stepfather, Mildred (Curl) Ciriegio & Joe Ciriegio. He was also preceded in death by half-brothers Robert J. Wolfe, Dick Babylon and (infant) Kim Wolfe. Other survivors include his daughters, Angela, and her husband Phil Cozad, and Deanna, and her husband Gordon Walker all of Houston. There are seven grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Cozad and his wife Elizabeth (Swartzwelder) Cozad of Bellbrook, Ohio; Stephanie (Cozad) Leichty and her husband Marshall Leichty of Tipp City, Ohio; Emily (Cozad) Scanlon and her husband Keith Scanlon of Columbus, Ohio; Cierra (Cozad) Bolin and her husband Gavin Bolin of Houston, Ohio; Jaime (Walker) Neff and her husband Rob Neff of Ada, Ohio; Jill (Walker) Pulfer and her husband Justin Pulfer of Sidney, Ohio; and Bryan Walker and his wife Karley (Hockemeyer) Walker of Piqua, Ohio. Also surviving are 14 great grandchildren, Emmaline and Jameson Cozad; Nora and Wyatt Leichty; Makenzie, Carter, Tessa and Ava Neff; Nikoli and Ellara Jolly, Raelynn Doseck, Maevely and Lorna Pulfer; and Maren Walker. Barry has a surviving brother Timothy Wolfe and his wife Julia Wolfe of Sidney, Ohio; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert & Marcia Durnell of The Villages, Florida and Sam & Bertha Swob of Houston, Ohio. Barry was a 1964 graduate of Houston High School. Following graduation, he began working at Hartzell Fan of Piqua before being drafted into the US Army. After serving two years with the US Army which included a year in Vietnam, he returned to Hartzell Fan and retired from there after 43 years. He subsequently started his own consulting and sales company, Blue Wolfe Air Systems, Inc., until his final retirement in 2013. Upon retirement, Barry became an avid woodworker and carver in his Houston workshop. He enjoyed carving Santa Claus wood heads and giving them each year to his children and grandchildren as Christmas gifts. He and Janice enjoyed spending time with their family, traveling, and vacationing in Florida at their Ft. Myers condo. Barry' s memberships included the Sidney First Methodist Church, Sidney American Legion, past trustee of Houston Community Center, former Shelby County Woodcarvers Guild, Houston Rescue Squad, and Houston Fire Department. While serving in Vietnam, Barry was exposed to Agent Orange which led to his Parkinsonism/PSP, that he had been battling for the past eight years. In his final days, he was blessed with a fantastic Hospice team allowing him to remain at his home: Heather S., Jhama J., Kay, and Rev. Raleigh.

Betty L. Rethman

Age 79, formerly of Loy Road, Fort Loramie, passed away of peacefully of natural causes Tuesday morning, February 25, 2025, at Elmwood Assisted Living in New Bremen, Ohio, where she had been a resident for five years. She was born October 8, 1945, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Clarence "Pete" & Zelma "Zip" (Baltes) Ernst. On September 27, 1969, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, Betty married John D. Rethman who survives. Also surviving are three children, Brad & Ann Rethman of Fort Loramie, Karla & Doug Larger of Minster and Kelly & Jason Borchers of Fort Loramie; 12 grandchildren: Jake, Paige, Claira and Frank Rethman; Kate, Anna, Grant and Grace Larger and Liv, Colleen, Camille and Elaina Borchers; three sisters, Connie Strobel of Troy, Carol Brewer of Tipp City, Shirley & Glen Hamilton of Toledo and a brother-in-law, Bill & Jan Rethman of Fort Loramie along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Ernst & Barb Ernst Wilson and brothers & sisters-in-law: Bill Strobel, Larry Brewer and Jim & Beck Rethman. A 1963 graduate of Fort Loramie High School, Betty went on to achieve R.N. nursing certification at the Cuyahoga Community College of Cleveland. She earned her B.S. degree in nursing from Bluffton University. In 2001, Mrs. Rethman retired from the Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy. She worked in the emergency departments at Troy and at the former Piqua Memorial Medical Center for a total of 35 years. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and St. Ann's Ladies Sodality. Betty was a founding member of the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad. She had been instrumental in building community support and recruiting volunteers; enabling the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad to be fully operational in 1975.

Brenda M. Barlage

Age 55, formerly of Versailles, passed away of natural causes, Thursday morning, June 8, 2023, at Ohio Hospice of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, following a brief battle with cancer. She was born August 23, 1967, in Coldwater, Ohio, to the late Alvin & Rita (Albers) Barlage. Surviving are five siblings: Anthony (Tony) & Kris Barlage of Versailles, Theodore (Ted) & Linda Barlage of Yorkshire, Brian & Traci Barlage of Fort Loramie, Tresa & Joseph Zianno of Hamilton and Steven (Steve) & Tricia Barlage of Chickasaw; step siblings: Maria & Wesley Barnhill of Huber Heights, Hal Mowry of Lima, Amy & Chip Noykos of Minster, Bonnie & Mike Raypholtz of Baltimore and Melissa & Eric Pfenning of Lakeview as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her step mother, Mary Margaret Lusk Barlage. Brenda was a 1986 graduate of Versailles High School and a 1991 graduate of Wright State University with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She accomplished nearly 30 years as a nurse, with most of those at the Children's Medical Center in Dayton. The final years of her career were at the Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio in Dayton. Her nursing career allowed her to take care of others (especially the young and the old), teach and mentor new nurses, and build lifelong friendships. She had been a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dayton. Throughout her life, Brenda spent countless hours crafting. Brenda would regularly be found cross-stitching, quilting baby blankets, and crocheting pot scrubbers, wash clothes, tea towels or wedding gifts for loved ones. Brenda's skills also included beading and jewelry making, creating many beautiful homemade treasures. Brenda will be missed by many friends, especially Connie Fannin, a fellow nurse who spent countless hours taking care of Brenda throughout her cancer diagnosis, and Heather and Andy Nodzak, longtime friends and neighbors who have assisted with keeping her yard beautiful and taking care of Brody, her canine companion.

Carl J. Barhorst

Age 92, of Eastview Drive, Fort Loramie, passed away peacefully of natural causes Monday morning, March 24, 2025, at Elmwood Assisted Living in New Bremen, Ohio. He was born October 14, 1932, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to the late Albert & Anna (Barlage) Barhorst. On August 29, 1959, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Sharpsburg, Carl married Eileen (Schoen) Barhorst who survives. Also surviving are six children: Chris & Jennifer Barhorst of Greenville, Steve & Linda Barhorst of Newport, Dale & Joyce Barhorst of Minster, Connie & Keith Brown of Versailles, Scott & Melissa Barhorst of Sidney and Rick & Teresa Barhorst of Fort Loramie; 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Kay Thornton of Coldwater, Bill & Jane Boeckman of Coldwater, Janice Hemmelgarn of Centerville, Harold & Theresa Schoen of Indianapolis, IN, Patricia & Neil Diller of Fort Recovery, James & Mary Ann Schoen of Dayton, Doris & Doug Runyon of Sequoia, WA, Linda & Adrian Noll of Celina, Rick & Doris Schoen of Palo Alto, CA, Marilyn & Eric Greenrose of Dayton and Dan & Peg Schoen of Greenville along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two infant children, Joseph & Mary Barhorst; six siblings: Alma & Orville Mangen, Albert & Martha Barhorst, Harold Barhorst, Norma & Leroy Koverman, Joan & Vernon Vondenhuevel and Ernest & Joann Barhorst; brothers and sisters-in-law: Harvey Thornton Jr., Virginia Boeckman, Harold Hemmelgarn and David & Trish Schoen. Mr. Barhorst was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Stolle Corp. in Sidney where he had been employed 44 years. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, a 50-year member of the Fort Loramie American Legion Post 355 and a retired member of the Fort Loramie Volunteer Fire Department. Whitey was known by his family and friends for his spirited personality. He loved his family and was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Since retiring, he enjoyed building many woodworking projects. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 29, 2025, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. John Tonkin presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery. Family and friends may call Friday, 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie. Chalmer F. Gasson

Age 81, of E. Park St., Fort Loramie, passed away of natural causes early Saturday morning, June 15, 2024, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. He was born December 27, 1942, in Frenchtown, a son of the late Chelcie F. and Cecelia W. (Barga) Gasson. On April 25, 1964, he was united in marriage to Linda Kay (Watercutter) Gasson; she survives. Also surviving are four children, Christopher & Victoria Gasson of Fort Loramie, Craig Gasson of Sidney, Chad & Carolyn Gasson of Fort Loramie and Corey & Nicole Gasson of Fort Loramie; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; six siblings: Leona Monnin of Versailles, Almareda Bruns of Versailles, Wilma Didier of Frenchtown, Mary Lou Bornhorst of Frenchtown, Madonna & Fred McEldowney of Versailles and Curtis Gasson of Frenchtown; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ron Huber of Covington, Kathy Gasson of Versailles, Jim Hulsmeyer of Anna, Pat Watercutter of New Weston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Chalmer was preceded in death by his siblings: Luella Huber, Roberta Schlater and Carl Gasson; and in-laws Donald Monnin, Leroy Bruns, Lewis Didier, Jim Bornhorst, Lavern Schlater, Carol Hulsmeyer, Jerry Watercutter, Dorothy & William Brussell and Evelyn & Carl Ahrns. Mr. Gasson was a 1961 graduate of Versailles High School and served in the Ohio Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves in the 1960's. In 2005, Chalmer retired from Stolle Corp. (Norcold/Alcoa Building Products) of Sidney, where he was employed 30 years. He had also been engaged in farming all his working life. Chalmer was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Minster Fraternal Order of Eagles, Fort Loramie American Legion, and Fort Loramie Athletic Boosters & GYM Committee. He enjoyed farming, following the activities of his grandchildren, and adored his cat Fluff.

Christopher T. Shrieves

Age 38, of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his residence on October 15, 2024. He was born May 27, 1986, in Lansing, Michigan to Robin (Warnez) Shrieves of Fort Loramie and Mark Shrieves of Huber Heights. Also surviving is one brother, Jeremy Shrieves of Huber Heights; his grandmother, Barbara Lafferty of Michigan, aunts & uncles: Susan & Tom Patizer of Harrison Township, MI, Kathy Warnez of Illinois, Sharrie (Shrieves) Smith of Louisiana and Douglas Shrieves along with several cousins Elizabeth McGee, Robert Atkins, Stephany Rosik, Patrick Patizer, Shelby Preston and Chelsea Jaques as well as a friend of the family, Francis Marchal of Fort Loramie. He was preceded in death by grandparents Carl Lafferty, Donald Warnez, Douglas & Joyce Shrieves and one uncle Steven Michael Warnez. Mr. Shrieves was a 2004 graduate of Wayne High School in Huber Heights where he had been active in the National Honor Society and the Warrior soccer program. Chris then went on to Miami University in Oxford where he studied pre-law and pre-med. He was employed at the Target store in Huber Heights. Over the years, he had also worked at Applebee's Restaurant in Sidney, Brucken's Neighborhood Pub and Casey's General Store, both in Fort Loramie. A dapper high energy gentleman, Chris "CT" attracted friends easily. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed playing the acoustic guitar. When visiting in Fort Loramie, he especially enjoyed driving farm tractors and pampering Ginger, the rat terrier.

Cynthia C. Seger

Age 74, of Minster Fort Recovery Road, Minster, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Saturday afternoon, January 6, 2024, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was born January 13, 1949, in Plymouth, (Sheboygan County) WI, to the late LeRoy Mueller and Doris (Johnston) Mueller Baker. On November 1, 1994, at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, NV, Cindy married Carl "Woody" Seger Jr. who survives. He is survived by one son, Donald & Tara Scoggin of Urbana; four grandsons: Dalton and Andrew Scoggin, Liam and Connor McCoy; four siblings: Vickie (Mueller) Paul of Vancouver, WA, Bill Ferrel of the Pacific North West region, Karen (Ferrel) Nelson of Portland, OR, and Ron Ferrel of Vancouver, WA; sisters & brothers-in-law: Stephen & Rita Monnin of Botkins, Diana & John Hoying of St. Henry, Dennis Boerger of Sidney, Bonnie & Joe Sturm of Sidney, Richard Monnin & Diane Howell of Urbana, Jeffrey & Kendra Seger of Newport and Mary Beth & Gary Corbin of Sidney as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her step father, Morris Baker; step mother, Patricia Brasser; father & mother-in-law, Carl Sr. & Mary (Geise) Seger and sisters & brothers-in-law, Patricia and Michael & Rose Monnin. Mrs. Seger had been a dedicated homemaker. Over the years, she also worked at various local restaurants and as a nursing home aid. She was a member of White Oak Campground. In her leisure, Cindy enjoyed crocheting, watching Browns and Buckeye games, camping with Woody and friends, and especially, caring for her loyal felines and Pomeranian canines.

Cyril W. Pleiman

Age 67, of St. Rt. 705, Yorkshire, Ohio, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his residence Saturday morning, November 9, 2024. He was born December 1, 1956, in Coldwater, Ohio, to the late Henry & Matilda (Holscher) Pleiman. On September 23, 1978, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, Cyril married Lisa (Moeller) Pleiman who survives. Also surviving are three children: Michelle & Dan Subler of Troy, Andy & Abby Pleiman of Fort Loramie and Alan & Brittany Pleiman of Osgood; eight grandchildren: Cameron and Jonathan Subler, Addison, Allie, Aiden and Ainsley Pleiman, and Raegen and Connor Pleiman; ten siblings: Neal & Mary Jean Pleiman of Osgood, Ralph & Ruth Pleiman of Sidney, Larry & Linda Pleiman of Yorkshire, Carl & Rita Pleiman of Fort Recovery, Joan Maier of Houston, Mary Lou Overton of Sidney, Monica & Ron Manger of Botkins, Vic & Peg Pleiman of Sidney, Lucy & Tony Budde of Richland, WA, and Thelma & Joe Green of Jackson Center as well as sisters & brothers-in-law: Bernice Pleiman of Versailles, Cindy & Ron Steinke of McCormick, SC, Kevin Moeller of Vandalia and Dianne & Chris Wooddell of Sidney along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene Pleiman as well as Patrick, Joseph and Remigius Pleiman who died in their infancy/youth; sisters & brothers-in-law: Irene Pleiman, Joe Maier and Larry Overton; two nephews, Mike Pleiman, Doug Moeller and father & mother-in-law, Earl & Evelyn (Jutte) Moeller. Mr. Pleiman was a 1975 graduate of Minster High School. In 2022, he retired from the French Oil Mill Machinery Company of Piqua and had also been engaged in farming all of his working life. Cyril was a life-long member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Over the years, he served as a church usher, St. Martin Cemetery board member and Osgood Life Squad board member. Cyril was dedicated to his family and the daily tasks of the farm. He also enjoyed tinkering to keep equipment rolling and to find the best way of doing things. He was proud to live in the same house his whole life; his only move was upstairs to downstairs.

Damian J. Bruns

Age 18, of Kaiser Road, Versailles, passed away early Friday morning, May 17, 2024, at the Miami Valley Hospital ER in Dayton, Ohio; succumbing to injuries of an accident that occurred late Thursday evening. He was born January 6, 2006, in Sidney, Ohio, to Jason & Jennifer (Hoelscher) Bruns who survive at home. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Victor Hoelscher and grandmother, Joyce (Brunswick) Bruns. Mr. Bruns attended Fort Loramie Schools, received his credentials, and was about to participate in commencement ceremonies with the Fort Loramie High School graduating class of 2024. He enjoyed learning and cheerfully interacting with students and faculty. He had also been active in several academic and athletic programs that included football, track, The Outdoor Club and FFA his freshman and sophomore year. Damian was looking forward to attending the University of Cincinnati where he was going to major in finance. Whenever possible, Damian enjoyed spending time outdoors. He loved camping with his family, fishing, riding dirt bikes, hanging out with friends and cousins, and hunting excursions with his brother, Bret. He always had a bright ornery smile, zest for life, loved taking naps and picking on his sister, Chloe, that he so loved and protected. He was a talented athlete that loved his team, coaches and the sport. From a young age on, he loved people and was a loyal and fun friend to many. He knew how to push his parents' buttons but always warmed it over with a hug or a laugh. Damian was such a tall handsome young man that looked absolutely stunning when he dressed up but preferred to wear a t-shirt and shorts, so please come and pay your respects as you want. Damian and his family were members of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood. Additionally, he attended CCD and received the Sacrament of Confirmation along with his school classmates at St. Michael Parish in Fort Loramie.

Debra A. Maurer

Age 71, of S. Walnut Street, New Bremen, passed away peacefully of natural causes Saturday morning, April 5, 2025, at Ohio's Hospice of Miami County in Troy, Ohio. She was born October 31, 1953, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Herbert & Irene (Gaier) Imwalle. Deb's step mother, Doris Jean Brandewie Imwalle also preceded her in death. On March 4, 1978, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Newport, Deb married Jack A. Maurer who survives. In 2021, she retired from Wilson Health Hospital in Sidney, where she had been a laboratory clerk for 48 years. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in New Bremen. Deb was dedicated to her husband and family. She especially loved interacting with her grandchildren and was always ready to help out anyone that needed it.

Dolores T. (Hartings) Schulze

Age 89, formerly of Bergman Road, Yorkshire, passed away peacefully of natural causes Wednesday morning, April 2, 2025, at The Gardens of St. Henry, in St. Henry, Ohio. She had been a resident for nearly four years. She was born January 18, 1936, in St. Rose, Ohio, to the late Lawrence & Leona (Hemmelgarn) Hartings. On January 26, 1957, at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose, Dolores married Walter F. Schulze who preceded her in death on July 30, 2012. Surviving are five children: John & Patricia Schulze of Fort Loramie, Rosann & Don Droesch of Maria Stein, Angela & Guy DeMange of Yorkshire, Anita & Tony Knapke of Greenville and Michael & Sandra Schulze of Yorkshire; 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemary (& Linus) Lefeld of St. Henry and Janice (& Tom) Grieshop of Franklin; two brothers, Rich Hartings of St. Marys and Ron (& Karen) Hartings of St. Rose; several sisters & brothers-in-law: Rosemary Hartings of St. Rose, Frank & Ginny Mohlman of Coldwater, Mary Lou Schulze of St. Henry and Victor & Judy Schulze of McCartyville along with numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Wilbert Hartings; two sisters, Eileen (& Erwin) Schulze, Norma Mohlman and sisters & brothers-in-law: Linda Hartings, Alvin & Delores Schulze, Elmer Schulze, Linus & Bernadette Schulze, Margaret & Albert Dircksen, Leander & Rita Schulze and Wilbert Schulze. Mrs. Schulze was a dedicated homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church where she had been a Rosary volunteer. She also belonged to St. Barbara Ladies Sodality and the Minster Eagles Auxiliary. Dolores loved music. She could play the organ and accordion. In her youth, she would play for weddings and dances. She also enjoyed polka dancing. Dolores was an avid card and board game player.

Doris C. Bruggeman

Age 94, formerly of Maria Stein, passed away peacefully of natural causes early Tuesday morning, March 26, 2024, at The Gardens at St. Henry, in St. Henry, Ohio, where she had been a resident for nearly seven years. She was born March 4, 1930, in Tipp City, Ohio, to the late August & Mary (Herbert) Barhorst. On April 18, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McCartyville, Doris married Virgil Bruggeman who preceded her in death on January 7, 1978. Surviving are six of eight children: Robert & Rebecca Bruggeman of Boswell, IN, David (dec.) & Dorothy Bruggeman of Coldwater, Ronald Bruggeman (dec.), Jan & Bob Borgerding of St. Henry, Mike & Peg Bruggeman of Botkins, Phyllis & Rick Rammel of Coldwater, Rita & Dave Pedersen of Maria Stein and Lois & Mark Bensman of New Bremen; 28 grandchildren; 62 of 63 great-grandchildren (one dec.) and 5 great-great-grandchildren; two siblings, Joseph Barhorst of Coldwater and Martha & Richard Subler of New Bremen along with several sisters & brothers-in-law: Mary Pierron of St. Henry, Howard & Marlene Bruggeman of Maria Stein, Larry & Becky Bruggeman of Maria Stein, Kay Bruggeman of St. Marys and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joseph Prenger; Nine siblings: Clarissa & William Brinkman, Charlene & Lavern Schmit, Dolores (twin) & Werner Bruggeman, Herbert & Clarissa Barhorst, Clarence & Shirley Barhorst, Marilyn & Ralph Meyer, Emily & Jack Subler, Eloise & Ivo Braun, Margie & Ed Rethman and several brothers & sisters-in-law: Werner Homan, Wilma Barhorst, Velma & Leonard Dietz, Virginia & Lavern Bruggeman, Joseph Pierron, Don Bruggeman, Mary Bruggeman and Eileen & Kenneth Otting. In 1993, Mrs. Bruggeman retired from Mersman Furniture in Celina. She was also a homemaker. Doris belonged to St. John The Baptist Catholic Church and the St. John's Ladies Sodality. Years ago, she had been active with The Red Hat Ladies club and the Chickasaw VFW Auxiliary. Doris was dedicated to her family and especially loved visiting with them. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, computer Solitaire and listening to Polka music.

Dorothy M. Jackson

Age 85, of N. Linden Street in Anna, Ohio, passed away peacefully of natural causes at her residence Friday evening, January 10, 2025. She was born May 21, 1939, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Melvin & Frances (Cole) Nolte. On August 16, 1969, in the beauty of the Philippine islands, Dorothy married Gary Jackson who preceded her in death on July 23, 2001. Surviving are two children, Christopher Jackson of Norfolk, VA, and Kimberly Jackson & Derek Spaugy of Anna; two grandchildren, Kyla & Tyler Johnson and Spencer Jackson along with one great-granddaughter, Juneau Jackson; three brothers, James Nolte of Anna, Louis Nolte of Anna and Michael Nolte of Sidney as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one infant son, Christian Jackson and three sisters-in-law, Doris, Jeanette and Nancy Nolte. Dorothy was a 1957 graduate of Anna High School. She went on to study nursing and to obtain RN credentials at the former St. Rita's School of Nursing in Lima. Dorothy served in the US Air Force as a nurse during the Vietnam War. She had been stationed in the Philippines for six years. In 2006, Mrs. Jackson retired from the Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy. She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the Sidney American Legion Post #217. Dorothy was an avid reader. Years ago she also enjoyed knitting.

Edward L. Gigandet

Age 85, of St. Rt. 66, Fort Loramie, passed away of natural causes Monday evening, January 20, 2025, at the Wilson Health Hospital in Sidney, Ohio. He was born February 12, 1939, in Frenchtown, Ohio, to the late Leonard & Florence (Monnin) Gigandet. On June 23, 1962, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, Edward married Doris (Sanders) Gigandet who survives. Also surviving are four children: Deborah & Dennis Trzeciak of Galena, Kenneth & Diane Gigandet of Fort Loramie, Dennis & Jill Gigandet of Fort Loramie and Victoria & Raymond Siwek of Sidney; Ten grandchildren: Andy & Brittany Trzeciak, Emily Trzeciak & Sebastian Leukel, Eric Trzeciak, Justin, Doug and Megan Gigandet, Lukas & Danielle Gigandet, Logan Gigandet, Amanda & R.C. Tumbleson and Ashley Rolland along with four great-grandchildren: Averi, Adeyah, Izzy and Arrow Tumbleson; one brother, Roger & Carol (Bruns) Gigandet of Versailles and sisters & brothers-in-law: Elfrieda Sanders of Fort Loramie, Mary Alice Sanders of Fort Loramie, Marilyn Huwer of North Star and Dennis Bruns of Cranberry Prairie as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers & sisters-in-law: Bernard "Bud", Clemens and Lawrence Sanders, Elizabeth Bruns and Victor Huwer. Mr. Gigandet served in the US Army during the Berlin Crisis. In 2000, he retired from the Minster Machine Company where he had been employed for 38 years. He had also been engaged in farming until retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church where he had been Mass coordinator, usher and assistant to the Priest for many years. Edward also belonged to the Fort Loramie American Legion Post 355 and the Versailles Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 2347. He was a long-time organizer of the Lake Loramie Fall Festival where he had also been a park volunteer and staff coordinator for over 40 years. Edward was a member of the Threshing Machine Crew at Tri-State Gas Engine & Tractor Association in Portland, IN., and had been the director of Tractor Area of Greenville Farm Power of the Past as well as chairperson of Buckeye Farm Antiques, Inc. Power Show. He participated in many Miami County Antique Power Association Events. In his leisure, Edward especially enjoyed camping and restoring antique tractors and farm equipment.

Eileen M. Mescher

Age 89, of Cohee Road, Versailles, passed away of natural causes Monday afternoon, April 7, 2025, at the Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy, Ohio. She was born February 5, 1936, in Yorkshire, Ohio, to the late August & Pauline (Pohlman) Rethman. On May 29, 1957, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood, Eileen married Eugene Mescher who preceded her in death on February 13, 2021. Surviving are four of five children: Linda & Mark Rutschilling of Yorkshire, Jerry Mescher (dec.), Robert & Azile Mescher of Newport, Ken & Karen Mescher of North Star, Mary Jo & Jerry Ronnebaum of Chickasaw and a daughter-in-law, Barbara & Steven ReVard of Plain City; eleven grandchildren: Julie & Tom Parker, Jeff & Amy Condon, Cindy & Ethan Bruns, Nick & Katie Rutschilling, Aaron & Irma Mescher, Melanie Mescher & Bilal Shahid, Rachael & Adam Bruns, Rich Mescher, Bridget & Eric Huelskamp, Matt Ronnebaum and Holly & Matt DeMange along with 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Rethman of Yorkshire and sisters & brothers-in-law: Luedna Gelhaus of Fort Recovery, Jim Werling of Burkettsville and Urban Mescher of Maria Stein as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters & brothers-in-law: Marjorie Rethman, Eugene Gelhaus, Marilyn Werling and Judy Mescher. In 1954, Eileen graduated Valedictorian at Versailles High School. She had been a dedicated homemaker and farm-wife. Many years ago, she was employed as a secretary for Subler Transfer in Versailles (4-years). She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Ann's Ladies Sodality, Maria Stein Spiritual Center Piece Makers, Darke County Right to Life and the North Star Legion Auxiliary where she had been a past treasurer (25-years). Eileen loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking; especially baking cookies and pumpkin rolls.

Elmer A. Mueller

Age 79, of North Steet in Osgood, Ohio, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his residence, early Sunday morning, September 1, 2024. He was born July 21, 1945, at the homeplace in Yorkshire, Ohio, to the late Henry & Marietta (Drees) Mueller. On June 11, 1966, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Wendelin, Elmer married Jean Ann (Koesters) Mueller who survives. Also surviving are four children: Tony & Tracey Mueller of Osgood, Jill & Eric Winner of Yorkshire, Cory & Lisa Mueller of Yorkshire and Jodi & Jon Sawmiller of Maria Stein along with 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; seven siblings: Paul & Elaine Mueller of New Weston, Betty Bertke of Maria Stein, Carl & Lois Mueller of Fort Loramie, Bill & Nancy Mueller of St. Henry, Linda & Wayne Bowers of Yorkshire, Mike & Donna Mueller of New Bremen and Margaret & Rick DeMange of Osgood; sisters & brothers-in-law: Nancy Mueller of Egypt, Gerald Brunswick of Anna, Jim & Pat Koesters of Dayton, Bill & Kathy Koesters of Carthagena, Charlene & Lou Grieshop of Fort Recovery, Kathy & Roger Broerman of Fort Recovery, Mike & Jane Koesters of London, Dave Rammel of Sharpsburg, Nick & Darlene Koesters of Wendelin, Judy & Jack Gaerke of St. Peter, Steve & Joyce Koesters of St. Henry, Mary Kay & Matt Cahill of St. Henry and Frank & Diana Koesters of Wendelin along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Mueller, Fred Mueller and brothers & sisters-in-law: Stan Bertke, Joan Brunswick, and Beck Rammel. In 2008, Mr. Mueller retired from Weaver Brothers Inc. of Versailles where he had primarily been the dock supervisor. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, the St. Nicholas Men's Sodality, a 50-year member of the Yorkshire Goat Farmers and was retired from the Osgood Volunteer Fire Department. Elmer served as an honorary/volunteer deputy Sherrif for Patterson Township and years ago, played softball for the men's Stump Jumpers team. In his leisure, Elmer enjoyed raising Toy Fox Terriers, Chinese Pugs and patrolling the area, scouting for deer and coyotes!

Ernest W. Barhorst

Age 87, of Fortman Road, Fort Loramie, passed away peacefully of natural causes early Monday morning, August 5, 2024, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Minster, Ohio. He was born December 29, 1936, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to the late Albert & Anna (Barlage) Barhorst. On February 7, 1959, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Burkettsville, Ernest married Joann (Keller) Barhorst who preceded him in death on September 30, 2014. Surviving are four children: Karen & Steven (dec.) Sahle of Springfield, Cynthia & Ronald Borges of Minster, Nancy & Jeffrey Monnin of Russia and Gerald & Brenda Barhorst of St. Henry along with nine grandchildren: David & Gina Hurley, Andrew Borges, Lisa & Lee Marchal, Maria & Kyle Walterbusch, Douglas & Maeve Huber, Ryan & Emily Barhorst, Michaela & Dusty Brown, Derreck Barhorst, Jerod Barhorst and 12 great-grandchildren: Tyler, Carter, Maura and Keenan Hurley; Ava, Eli and Lucy Walterbusch; Rudy Huber; Noelle and Leo Barhorst, Weston and Makenna Brown; One brother, Carl & Eileen Barhorst of Fort Loramie as well as sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law: Imogene "Jean" Hart of St. Henry, Waveline Selhorst of Coldwater, Princes Keller of Celina and Luke & Jayne Keller of Burkettsville as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five siblings; Alma & Orville Mangen, Albert & Martha Barhorst, Harold Barhorst, Norma & LeRoy Koverman, Joan & Vernon Vondenhuevel and brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: John Hart, Herbert Selhorst, Hubert Keller and Raymond & Kay Keller. In 1999, Mr. Barhorst retired from Stolle Machinery in Sidney where he had been employed 44 years. He was a life-long member of St. Michael Catholic Church. In his leisure, Ernie enjoyed woodworking, hunting & fishing, attending shooting matches and playing cards, especially Euchre.

Evelyn C. Eilerman

Age 89, of Louis Street, Fort Loramie, Ohio, passed away peacefully of natural causes at her residence early Saturday morning, July 13, 2024, just one day short of her 90 th birthday. She was born July 14, 1934, in Philothea, Ohio, to the late Joseph & Mary (Osterloh) Bohman. On August 25, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Egypt, Evelyn married Anthony R. Eilerman who preceded her in death on September 29, 2019. Surviving are two of three children, Charles & Lisa Eilerman of Kettering, Lisa & Andrew Sommer of Anna and Jim Eilerman (dec.); five grandchildren: Erin and Dan Salter, Nicole Kuck, Baylee and Reilly Sommer along with three great-grandchildren, Ethan Salter, Lincoln and Everleigh Kuck, all anticipating an additional, soon to arrive, great-grandson; five siblings: Velma Mescher of Coldwater, Luella Prenger of Coldwater, Norman & Lorena Bohman of Maria Stein, Dorothy Barlage of Minster, Joan Wuebker of Minster and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie Eilerman of Fort Loramie and Vernon Eilerman of Minster along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Rita & Urban Buening as well as several brothers & sisters-in law: Bud Mescher, Greg Prenger, Vernon Barlage, Fritz Wuebker, Luetta & Ray Pleiman, Adolph & Verona Eilerman, Albert & Marie Eilerman, Paul & Vic Eilerman, Teckala & Urban Bergman, Verona & Ben Schemmel, Mary & Lawrence Kuether, Bertha & Harold Wenning, John Eilerman, Vera Eilerman and (infant) Alfred Eilerman. Mrs. Eilerman was a dedicated homemaker and farmwife. Years ago, she had also worked for nearly 12 years at Wilson Health Hospital in Dietary. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Ann's Ladies Sodality and the St. Mary's Red Hat Line Dancing Club. She also volunteered at Heritage Manor Nursing center and the Sidney Soup Kitchen. Evelyn enjoyed following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities as well as in recent years, playing chair volleyball. She was also very talented at sewing, knitting, and crocheting.

Gage M. Holmes

Age 20, of Cohee Road, Versailles, passed away with injuries from an automobile accident early Saturday morning, January 13, 2024, near the Shaffer Road and Brown Road intersection in Versailles, Ohio. He was born January 15, 2003, in Richmond, Indiana. Surviving are his parents, Cheryl L. (North) & Anthony M. Gehret of Versailles and Phillip Joseph Holmes of Winchester, IN; grandparents: John North of Winchester, IN, Phillip & Charlene Holmes of Union City, IN, Madonna Gehret of Versailles and great-grandmother, Marilyn Kolp of Winchester, IN; one brother, Dustin & Shanna Holmes of Union City, IN; nieces and nephews, Amelia, Evelyn and Samuel Holmes; God-daughter, Sadie May as well as numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Linda North and Anthony J. Gehret. Mr. Holmes was a 2021 graduate of Versailles High School where he had been active in FFA. He was employed at Custom Foam Products Inc. in Fort Loramie and had previously been a mechanic at A L Smith Trucking Inc. in Versailles. Gage enjoyed helping with farming for several local farmers and was especially fond of his animals. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and an occasional target shooting match.

Gail W. Kite

Age 88, of New Bremen, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his residence, late in the evening of his birth date, August 2, 2024, following 15 years of multiple myeloma. He was born August 2, 1936, in Westville, Ohio, to the late Dale & Nellie (Falkner) Kite. On Aug.17, 1958, at Urbana United Methodist Church, Bill married Joyce (Henry) Kite who preceded him in death on June 18, 2001. On June 29, 2003, Bill married Clara Fisher Langenkamp who survives. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Joyce Eckhart, Keith Kite and several brothers & sisters-in-law: Charles "Chuck" Weymouth, Kathy Kite, Arthur & Kathleen Fisher, Bill Puthoff, Bill Beckert and Mary & Vernon Hecht. Mr. Kite was a 1954 graduate of Concord (Graham) Local School in Eris near Urbana. In 1999, he retired as general supervisor of construction from The Shelly Company (Northwood Asphalt) of Thornville, where he had been employed 45 years. He previously worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation of Sidney for seven years. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and was a 40 year - active member of the former Elks Lodge Post 132 of Bellefontaine.

Age 86, of Murphy Road, Versailles, passed peacefully away of natural causes Saturday evening, January 20, 2024, at the Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy, Ohio. He was born November 28, 1937, in Cassella, Ohio, to the late Lawrence & Laurena (Bergman) Kramer. On June 7, 1958, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, Gene married Patricia "Pat" (Subler) Kramer who survives. Also surviving are six children: Michael & Lois Kramer of Versailles, Steven & Martha Kramer of Versailles, Ronald & Jane Kramer of Versailles, Douglas & Kim Kramer of Richardson, TX, David & Kim Kramer of Celina and Linda & Steve Berger of Yorkshire; 16 grandchildren: Angela & Justin Armstrong, Amy & Andrew Gruden, Karen & Rick Vaught, Ashley & Vince Rohr, Abbigail & Frank Adams, Thomas, Joshua, Nicole and Derick & Kristine Kramer, Melisha & Kent Jansen, Kyle Kramer, Brandon, Brett & Tabitha and Deacon Brice Berger, Makayla & Justin Rose, Marcus Berger and three step grandchildren, Nathan Plummer, Jen & Joe Braun and Kris & Wade Caris; 19 great-grandchildren (& one on the way): Kaylee, Ethan and Claire Armstrong, Bryant, Allyson, McKenna and Landon Gruden, Alexis and Finley Rohr, Evelyn and Dawson Kramer, Brody Jansen, Leon and Annalise Adams, Leah and Anna Berger, Elijah, Emma and Renee Rose and three step great-grandchildren, Jensyn and Henley Braun and Jordan Caris; six siblings: Vern & Julie Kramer of Chicago, IL, Doris Goettemoeller of Versailles, Marvin Kramer of Kansas City, KS, Lloyd & Sylvia Kramer of Coldwater, Rene & Luke Klosterman of Coldwater, Janice & Charles Feltz of Coldwater and sister-in-law, Diane & Joe Seger of Fort Loramie along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Virgil Kramer; a brother-in-law, Bill Goettemoeller and father & mother-in-law, Jerry & Anna Subler. Mr. Kramer had been engaged in farming all of his working life. In 1994, he retired from the Minster Machine Company where he had been employed 28 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown, St. Denis Knights of Columbus Council #1756 (3rd degree), Catholic Knights of America and the Minster Machine 25-year club. Years ago, Gene & Pat were long-time members of the Dixie Twirlers square dance club. Gene was dedicated to his family. He also loved playing cards and restoring antique tractors.

Hannah M. Gehret

Age 20, of Althoff Road, Versailles, passed away Thursday evening, June 22, 2023, from injuries of an automobile accident at the intersection of Versailles-Yorkshire Road and Bulcher Road, near Versailles, Ohio. She was born July 28, 2002, in Sidney, Ohio, to Robert & Patricia (Smith) Gehret who survive. Also surviving is one brother, Wesley Robert Gehret of Versailles; grandparents, Virginia (Bergman) Smith and Mary Ann (Broering) & Louis Grieshop, all of Versailles, as well as numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Robert Smith and Vernon Gehret. Hannah was a 2021 graduate of Versailles High School and a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood. She would have soon completed Paralegal studies at Kent State University where she was an honor student and had been active in their Para Legal professional clubs. She was also serving an internship at Rudnick, Hosek & Pendl Ltd. In Greenville. In her leisure, Hannah enjoyed cross-stitching, embroidery and caring for her loyal pets. She was a faith filled person, passionate about reading, especially the Bible. She read scripture often, enjoyed journaling and participating in campus bible study groups. In keeping with the directives of her own last will and testament, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Nicholas Church in Osgood with Rev. Stephen Jones presiding followed by interment at St. Martin Cemetery. Calling hours are also by invitation. In Hannah's memory, memorials may be made to charities of choice. Harold J. Boerger

Age 84, of Leesburg, FL, formerly of Fort Loramie, OH, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his residence on Monday morning, February 20, 2023. Harry was born on March 15, 1938, in Fort Loramie, OH to the late Albert and Catherine (Barhorst) Boerger. Harry is survived by his loving family, wife Rita (Couchot) Boerger, whom he married on September 3, 1960, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Newport, OH. Also surviving are his children; Andrew (Lori) Boerger of Sidney, OH, and Eve (Dean) Paquet of Bradenton, FL; foster daughter Jerrilyn (Brotherwood) Colvin, grandchildren Adrien Boerger, Ashton (Todd) Applegate, Arron Boerger, all of Sidney, OH, Ian Paquet and Evan Paquet, both of Bradenton, FL; great grandson, Nash and step-great granddaughter, Ellie; sisters Eileen Wagner of Columbus, OH and Elizabeth Yeazell of St. Petersburg, FL; sister-in-law Marcia Boerger of Fort Loramie, OH. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Urban, Albert, James, Walter, sisters; Virginia Prueter, Veronica Unverferth, Patricia Pulfer, and Mildred Boerger, brothers-in-law; Robert Prueter, William Wagner, Paul Unverferth, Ronald Pulfer, Robert Yeazell, sisters-in-law; Ruth Boerger and Helen Boerger.

Hilda B. Siegel

Age 89, of Hickory Drive in Fort Loramie, Ohio, passed away peacefully of natural causes, surrounded by her family at her residence late Thursday evening, February 1, 2024. She was born September 17, 1934, at her homeplace near Osgood, Ohio, to the late Leo & Anna (Lehnert) Seger. On October 18, 1956, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood, Hilda married her husband of 40 years, Norbert Siegel who preceded her in death on April 7, 1997. Surviving are three of five children: Mark Siegel (dec.), Dale (dec.) & Diane Siegel of Fort Loramie, Cheryl Arkenberg of Fort Loramie, Karen & Ernie Clayton of Versailles and Dave & Jodi Siegel of Fort Loramie; 13 grandchildren: Amanda & Luke Kuenning, Mitchell Siegel, Rachel & Josh Griffith, Maria & Matt Davis, Heather Siegel, Chad Arkenberg, Kelli & Wayne Johnson, Cody & Amanda Arkenberg, Eric & Emily Pepple, Brent & Emily Pepple, Travis, Carter and Tyler Siegel along with 14 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Linda Siegel of Fort Loramie and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Rita & Urban Drees, and John & Judy Seger as well as sisters & brothers-in-law: Pauline Drees, Norma & Lester Bergman, Elizabeth & Jess Gossette and Roger Siegel. Hilda was a dedicated matriarch and homemaker for her family. She also worked outside the home for the Shelby County Auditor's Office and The Dannon Company in Minster. Years ago, Hilda and her late husband Norb built/established several local businesses including Siegel's Landing (now Morrie's Landing), The Fort Loramie Laundromat & Dry Cleaners and The Fort Loramie Ice Company. She was a 1952 graduate of Minster High School. Mrs. Siegel was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church where she had been a CCD teacher, student walker volunteer and was active in St. Ann's Ladies Sodality (past president & officer) and the Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary. Hilda also belonged to the Fort Loramie American Legion Auxiliary (past president, officer & chicken fryer), Minster Eagles Auxiliary and was a founding member of the White Oaks Lake Club. She also served as an election poll worker for Cynthian and McLean Townships and had been a long-time blood bank volunteer. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Hilda was the happiest when she had her entire family together. She also enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, sewing, flower gardening, cooking and baking. Hilda was a caring person and was known to help anyone who came to her for whatever was needed. Hilda also appreciated the families of White Oaks Lake as if they were part of her own family.

Phyllis I. Clark

Age 51, of St. Rt. 47, Houston, passed away of natural causes late Saturday evening, April 1, 2023, at the Wilson Health Hospital in Sidney, Ohio. She was born October 25, 1971, in Greenville, Ohio to the late Roger & Mary (Seger) Platfoot. On May 6, 2000, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Newport, Phyllis married Jeffry Clark who survives. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Ann & Andy Stevenson of Wapakoneta, Eileen Knief of New Bremen and brothers & sisters-in-law: Joseph Clark of Sidney, Philip & April Clark of Versailles and Samuel & Tamera Clark of Sidney along with numerous nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, one great-great nephew and several uncles, aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by one son, Kyle Thomas Clark; two sisters, Joyce Platfoot, and Theresa Platfoot; three brothers-in-law, Philip Knief, Paul Clark and Peter Clark as well as father & mother-in-law, Jack and Nancy Clark. Phyllis was a 1991 graduate of Russia High School and the Upper Valley Career Center in Piqua where she studied Restaurant Occupations. Years ago, she had been employed at Bob Evans Restaurant and Kroger's in Sidney. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Newport. Phyllis was handy at crafts, especially needlework and embroidering. She also enjoyed watching The Price is Right and classic programs like Alice, Reba, Golden Girls and In the Heat of the Night. Phyllis and Jeff often took in summer festivals where they could laugh at tractor square dancing and enjoy their favorite cover music by Freelance and Free Rider.

Samuel A. Barhorst

Age 80, of Liberty Way, Fort Loramie, passed away peacefully of natural causes Sunday morning, January 19, 2025, at the Ohio's Hospice of Miami County facility in Troy, Ohio. He was born August 15, 1944, in Piqua, Ohio, to the late Leo "Spin" & Mary (Schwartz) Barhorst. On January 11, 1969, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater, Samuel married Patricia (Dues) Barhorst who survives. Also surviving are four children: Tim Barhorst of Fort Loramie, Angie & Kevin Geise of Sidney, Brenda & Rich Rose of Fort Loramie and Christopher & Kelly (Morris) Barhorst of New Albany; Eight grandchildren: Alex Barhorst, Kevin Geise Jr., Maddie & Jon Blankenship and Sam Geise, Kenneth and Dana Rose, Elise and Alaina Barhorst and two great-grandchildren, Knox and Paisley Blankenship; three siblings, Norman & Janet Barhorst of Fort Loramie, Nelson & Joyce Barhorst of Fort Loramie and Kathleen & Meinrad "Bud" Link of Celina; sisters & brothers-in-law: Ginny Dues of Coldwater, Charlie Dues of Coldwater, Georgene Knapke of Fairborn, Betty & Jack Goettemoeller of Colorado Springs, CO, and Mary & Don Eyink of Maria Stein along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three siblings, John & Ruth Barhorst, infant Barbara Barhorst and Michael & Mary Jo Barhorst as well as sisters & brothers-in-law: Ann Barhorst, Alvin Dues, Dan Knapke and Margie Knapke. Mr. Barhorst was a 1962 graduate of Fort Loramie High School. He served in the Ohio Army National Guard for six years during the Vietnam war-protest era. In 2001, Mr. Barhorst retired from Spring Creek Ready Mix where he had been part owner and operator. Sam was involved with Spring Creek for 44 years. In last working years, he managed the Celina and Coldwater plants. Sam was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Fort Loramie American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially boating and jet-skiing in Florida and at Grand Lake St. Marys. Sam followed his grand-children's sporting events and was also an avid Reds and Browns fan.
