SMALL WOODS - Key Persons


Adam Gillingham

Adam is a retired property lawyer. During his 34 years in the law he specialised, latterly as a partner of the Edinburgh based law firm, Turcan Connell, in Scottish rural property law, having a particular interest in the environmental impact of ownership and management of Scotland's most valuable natural asset, its land. Clients included an eclectic mix of landowners and managers including the conservation charity, The John Muir Trust. Through this work, he also became far more conversant with Scotland's extraordinarily diverse landscape and also of the significant challenges facing those tasked with managing and working the land for the benefit of future generations. Adam now splits his time between the City of Edinburgh and the southwest of Scotland where, along with his wife, he owns and manages 30 acres of mixed ancient wood and wetland and on part of which they have overseen the building of an off grid eco-hut. Adam is Chairman of his local park in north Edinburgh, a Trustee of the Institute of European Policy UK, a member of the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland, Forth & Borders Committee and a member of the United Kingdom Environmental Association and its Wild Law Group.

Alice Brawley

Alice is Woodland Management Project Officer for North Wales. Alice has experience in both the public and private sector where she has managed a community woodland in central Scotland for the last 3-years and worked for a small private forestry company focusing on woodland creation in the Scottish borders. She is experienced working with different landowners and designing and managing woodlands with an environmental and social focus. Passionate about all things tree and woodlands, she is enthusiastic about enabling the UK's woodlands to be better managed for people, wildlife and local production. She is interested in developing projects which enable different uses of wood-based products and exploring how woodlands can fuel creativity. Over the last year she managed the build of a Musical Forest - an outdoor space hosting wooden musical instruments - and is building a yurt in her free time. At Coed Lleol she is responsible for surveying, monitoring and advising on woodland management and delivering woodland management activities as part of our wellbeing sessions.

Alison Moore

Starting her career in youth and community work, Alison spent time delivering outreach and centre-based and alternative education projects to young people. She then moved into education, leading an enrichment provision that developed and delivered a wide range of activities and opportunities to help expand young people's experiences. On moving to Wales (Pembrokeshire), Alison embarked on working in the employment and skills sector. As a training advisor who later managed a range of externally funded projects, she helped engage individuals and communities in personal development programmes for people of all ages and abilities from 16+.

Aly May

Aly is the co-owner of the Herefordshire based company ‘Say It With Wood'. She is a qualified and experienced forester as well as managing a team at their timber yard, producing multiple fencing and garden products. Aly also plays an active role in managing an ancient woodland near Hereford which she co-owns.

Amie Andrews

Job Titles:
  • Social Forestry and Wellbeing Manager
Amie manages our Social Forestry and Wellbeing Team. Her work focuses on health and wellbeing activities in woodlands across the UK. She manages the effective delivery of our social forestry and wellbeing projects, balancing the requirements of stakeholders from the health, environment and training sectors. Amie also raises the profile of Small Woods, taking forward the strategic direction, whilst developing funding ideas to build the scope and breadth of our social forestry programmes. Amie is an anthropologist by background with experience in teaching and project management.

Ann Rowley

Job Titles:
  • Administration Assistant
As administration assistant, Ann's work includes processing new and existing memberships and keeping our records up to date. She also looks after the admin side of our courses and events by sending out information to attendees and keeping an eye on how places are filling up. In her spare time she coaches athletics at her local club in the junior section, and is a track judge at competitions. She also likes pilates and photography. Her favourite tree is a lilac as she loves the smell and colour.

Becky Brandwood-Cormack

Becky loves playing outside, whether that's trail running, mountain biking, wild swimming or a mindful stroll in the woods. She enjoys foraging for medicinal plants, bird watching and tree hugging. She has studied nutrition and loves tasty, healthy plant-based food to maximise her physical and mental health. Becky is passionate about nature and encouraging others to build their connection with the natural world in order to create a more harmonious and reciprocal relationship. She has previously worked in leisure centre management and sports development, holistic wellness and is co-founder of the Free Hugs initiative in South Wales. She can't possibly choose a favourite tree as they are all so unique and offer us so much in terms of medicine, wisdom and beauty.

Ben Howard

Job Titles:

Ben is an environmental scientist specialising in nature-based solutions. He has a degree in conservation biology, a masters in forest management, and a PhD in ecohydrology which he conducted in partnership with the Birmingham Institute of Forest Management and Small Woods Association. He has worked and volunteered as a coppicer and researched the use of coppice products (e.g. fascines) in river restoration. Now at Imperial College London, his current work is based mostly in sub-Saharan Africa and investigates climate change impacts and adaptation solutions. He works with international charities and public organisations, such as Save the Children and UNESCO.

Beverly Tyley - Treasurer

Beverly has worked for thirty years in the public sector, most recently as a senior manager in three further education colleges based in Shropshire and the West Midlands. As a qualified accountant, Beverly has wide experience of financial and human resource management, information services, IT, quality systems, estates and health and safety. She became the Treasurer for Small Woods in 2016 and is also the Finance Director (Trustee) for a Multi Academy Trust and Co-Director of a company specialising in management consultancy.

Calum Stark

Calum is the woodland management project officer for Pembrokeshire. He has spent the last few years as a freelance woodland instructor, teaching others about coppicing, greenwood craft and sustainable woodland management. He helps to run a farm with his girlfriend that provides organic produce for local businesses and customers. Calum also plays the flute and works a freelance musician for a charity that provides music for hospitals and care homes. Calum has obtained a degree in Psychology, specialising in the benefits of nature-based activities. He is passionate about non-violent communication (NVC). His favourite tree is a Holly!

Carli Porter

Carli has a passion for supporting others on their wellness journey and a love for outdoors. As a Qoya Inspired movement facilitator, she supports people in connecting with their innate wisdom, remembering their essence as Wise, Wild and Free. As such, flowing rivers and ancient woodlands clearly align. For many years she home schooled her three young children, witnessing how supportive the natural environment is to personal development - for learning, playing, and simply being… for herself as much as the children! Carli has a degree in Contemporary Craft from Falmouth which led to her completing her PGCE in Secondary Art and Design. Her true passion is natural learning; how as humans we learn from the moment we enter this world; embracing a natural curiosity that serves to meet our deep needs. You'll find her making beautiful mandalas, using fallen leaves in the woods or pebbles on a beach. At the sessions she'll be a friendly face with an open mind and caring nature, tending to the kettle on the fire. Her favourite woodland is St Mary's Vale, a swathe of ancient oaks on the slopes of the Sugar Loaf. The rushing stream and the wind in the canopy providing the backdrop to mythic scenery… a place that inspires… like so many places in Wales to explore; to embrace… as a dedicated Woodland Wellbeing Project Officer she hopes to connect folks in the community with nature and themselves.

Cathy Velmans

Cathy has 20 years experience working for outdoor and environmental organisations including Natural Resources Wales, where she designed and delivered nature-based training for professionals, Forest School courses and woodland education sessions. She loves yoga, walking and being in the outdoors and also enjoys meeting and chatting to new people. Her favourite trees are Hawthorn for its beautiful flowers in spring and Oak for its strength and peace.

Chris Duncan

Based in Bristol with a small woodland in the Brecon Beacons, Chris has had a varied career in engineering and manufacturing including with Rolls Royce and Hewlett Packard. More recently, he started a company making school furniture and has run high end joinery company that was a member of the British Woodworking Federation as well as being a founder member of the Wood Window Alliance.

Chris Keeler

A fourth-generation forester and coppice worker, Chris grew up in the sweet chestnut coppice woods of Kent and has worked in the coppice, woodland, and arboriculture industry for over 20 years. He considers himself very fortunate to have learned his trade from some of the last ‘proper' woodsmen who cut trees with axe, hook, and hand saw and still uses these tools to this day. Chris is passionate about passing on this knowledge to others, as well as communicating his love of all things nature. Outside of SWA, you will often find Chris demonstrating coppicing and heritage skills at shows around the south-east, or on a cricket pitch somewhere. Naturally, his favourite tree is sweet chestnut.

Christine Holding

Christine was engaged in agroforestry and community forestry programmes in the Sahel and East Africa for a number of years, latterly with the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) in Nairobi. Following this, she was Forestry Officer in the People and Forests Team of the Forestry Department, Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Rome, Italy, and has subsequently undertaken consultancy work for the National Forest Monitoring and Assessment Team. Christine has extensive experience in the design and implementation of socio-economic surveys in association with forest inventory, as well as preparing and collating policy briefs and advisory materials, and is delighted to have the opportunity to apply this skill set to the local context in support of small woodland management. Christine has postgraduate qualifications from the University of Reading and ENGREF in Montpellier, France. She is passionate about everything to do with woodlands and is an active supporter of the health and wellbeing benefits of access to nature. She is a qualified Forest School Leader.

Claire Tuxworth

Claire loves being outdoors, going for long walks and exploring new places - especially woodlands - along with helping to support the team in her admin role at Coed Lleol / Small Woods. Claire runs her own art business where she combines her art practice with her love of the natural world. Her favourite trees are Hawthorn and Elder because of the fascinating stories of folklore that surround them.

Dave Cheetham

Dave has worked in IT for over 25 years. His previous roles were at Eversheds LLP and at Computercentre UK, where he was responsible for over 5000 users and over 800 servers, both virtual and physical, across 14 countries. He also owns a Land Rover 4x4 restoration and parts business. Dave was once a shepherd in New Zealand where he had two dogs working on a 21,000-acre farm looking after 15,000 sheep 8,000 cattle and 1000 deer. He was born in Llanuwchllyn, North Wales, where he lived for 25 years. He loves hiking, walking and camping in his VW Camper.

David Reeve

David began his working life as an archaeologist, specialising in the prehistory of Britain before chance led him into writing for television. For 21 years he ran his own media and PR company making programmes and designing communications campaigns for large clients in the professional sports, events, arts and environmental sector. David project manages a number of programmes including Mercian, the Succession Project and the Small Woods initiative on Biodiversity.

Dawn Brazier

Dawn makes sure that the administration and finance framework at Small Woods runs smoothly. She is also responsible for the on-site commercial activities at the Green Wood Centre. Dawn has a long career in customer service management and an extensive knowledge of GDPR. She was previously employed by a worldwide electronics company, however with conservation, nature, and wildlife being close to her heart, she feels very lucky to have become part of the Small Woods family. She absolutely loves owls, because they're so beautiful, mysterious, and calm, she's also a big fan of donkeys and goats.

Deb Cheetham

Deb manages our Administration and Finance Team, who assist her in making the financial and administration functions of Small Woods run as smoothly as possible. She has a background in IT and business management and worked for a large law firm for twelve years.

Elise Hughes

Job Titles:
  • Project Officer for Merthyr Tydfil
Elise is a project officer for Merthyr Tydfil and RCT and is responsible for delivering woodland wellbeing programmes across these regions. Elise has a background of delivering psychological therapies and wellbeing interventions and is passionate in supporting others with their wellbeing and connection to the outdoors. In her spare time, she enjoys rambling, taking photos of scenic landscapes and meditation. Her favourite tree is field maple for its rich golden-yellow colours in autumn.

Emma Goldsmith

Job Titles:
  • Communications Coordinator
Emma has worked in the third sector for the past 17 years, in a range of settings from homelessness prevention to substance misuse. She spent three years as a communications manager for a mental health charity before joining Small Woods in September 2021. Her main role is supporting the communications team, whilst raising and maintaining the profile of the organisation. She ensures that approaches to communication are effective and consistent, including leading on branding, communication strategy and marketing. She is also a freelance photographer and is continuously updating and expanding the image library.

Emyr Peregrine

Emyr is responsible for coordinating the claims process for projects. He has a science and technology background and has spent 30 years working in the polymer industry in a variety of roles including managing large, multi-partner, UK and European Union funded projects. When not grappling with spread sheets he enjoys long distance cycling, geology and volunteering in woodland management. He is a chartered engineer with a BSc in Applied Chemistry and an MSc in Polymer Engineering. He also a degree in geosciences and is currently studying for a post graduate qualification in biological recording. Originally from Carmarthenshire, he is a fluent Welsh speaker.

Frankie (Sam) Evans

Frankie has joined the team from Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, having worked there for 5 years as the Walkability Officer. Prior to this, Frankie worked as a day centre manager for Value Independence, a care company supporting vulnerable adults. During her spare time you will generally find Frankie in the woods in a hammock with a pot of foraged tea on the fire. With her background working with adults with disabilities and disengaged group, she has seen the benefits that the outdoors has on everyone who steps into it, and it is this passion for making woodlands accessible to all that brought her to us.

Gary Battell

Gary has 45 years of experience working in the woodland sector, including working for the Forestry Commission, National Trust and Suffolk County Council. He is an advisor to the Suffolk Tree Warden Network, sits on regional committees for the Royal Geographical Society and the Royal Forestry Society, and was a trustee of the Ancient Tree Forum. In 2017 Gary received the Peter Savill award for services to British forestry. We welcome Gary back Small Woods board member after a break, having previously served for 12 years.

Gemma Neaves

Gemma has a background in teaching and Third Sector project delivery with a wellbeing focus. Her skills lie in working with children and young people from areas of multiple deprivation, and English as an additional language. Gemma has worked with a wide age range from Kindergarten to Universities across South Wales and also, China, and South Korea. Gemma loves to spend her free time connecting with nature in woodlands: foraging, searching for fungi, practising mindfulness, and observing flora and fauna. She believes nature creates a sense of belonging and purpose as we reconnect to the natural world. In her work, Gemma aims to boost young people's self esteem and confidence in connecting with outdoor green space in fun and safe manner which supports their mental and physical health. She loves her job as as it combines both of her passions into one!

Hannah Brigham

Hannah works closely with project staff and the communications team to promote the Woodland Wellbeing projects in Wales through social media, press and publicity. Hannah is a passionate about the environment and campaigns for Climate Justice with UK Youth Climate Coalition in her spare time. She has worked in the charity sector for many years in diverse roles including Energy Advisor and Fundraiser. Alongside working part time for Small Woods, Hannah works as a Swimming and Surfing Instructor. She learnt to surf in Cornwall, where she used to live, and loves to go surfing, hiking and wild swimming on the weekends. She is a big advocate for improving access to the outdoors and has volunteered with young people for The Wave Project [a surf therapy charity] and on youth expeditions in Costa Rica with Raleigh. Her favourite tree is the Willow Tree because it reminds her of the one in her local park growing up.

Helen Hedworth

Helen coordinates Coed Lleol's research and evaluation, collaborating with researchers in the field of nature and health, and monitoring and evaluating Coed Lleol's social forestry projects. With a background in ecology, much of her work has been in impact assessment for development projects, but she has also worked on international research projects, and as a lecturer and tutor of biology. Spending less time working in the field these days, Helen is all too aware of how therapeutic natural spaces can be (and how too much time inside isn't good for us!) From a scientific perspective, she is also curious of how our sensory and evolutionary biology hard-wire us to thrive in a natural environment. Her favourite tree is the walnut, as the fruits are delicious and the wood beautifully patterned!

Hugh Boyes

Hugh has worked for many years in charity finance and is here to help with financial management, control and reporting. Now partly retired, Hugh volunteers with the National Trust and Herefordshire Wildlife Trust. Activities include walking and tennis, but mainly flying, paragliders, as often as the wind & weather will allow.

I-Cheng Austen

I-Cheng is the editor of our quarterly Smallwoods magazine and creates the members' e-Newsletter, which goes out twice a month. In addition, she works on the communications for the Green Wood Centre site and on social media for the charity. I-Cheng has a background in journalism and previously worked on newspapers in Lincoln, Plymouth and Dubai. She is based at our headquarters in Coalbrookdale.

John Blessington - Chairman

Job Titles:

John was first elected as Chair of Trustees for Small Woods in 2005, and was re-elected 2008. John used to be Shropshire Woodland Officer with Shropshire County Council and is now an Arboricultural Officer with the unitary Shropshire Council. He is a former board member of the Heartwoods subsidiary company.

John Mitchell

John has a varied background, working on environmental and land management projects across the public, private and third sectors. With a specialism and particular fondness for trees and woodlands, he has endeavoured to prolong his childhood playing in the woods, just with louder and more expensive toys. Owing so much of his own personal happiness to time spent in nature, he feels obliged to pass this on and enable others to experience its benefits for themselves.

Julia Allinson

Julia's work at Small Woods contributes to our fundraising and income generation. She has a background in sales and marketing in the hospitality sector and as a freelance fundraiser for small charities.

Kate Clements

Job Titles:

Kate has a background in Environmental Education, coming from a Geography teaching background. She ran successful projects in the Great North Forest before coming to work at Coed Lleol (Small Woods Wales). Kate is good at working and relating to people from diverse backgrounds, and loves being outdoors, mountain walking with her family, and travelling. Her favourite trees are Apples, as they are both edible and beautiful.

Katie Barrett

Katie Barrett is a wildlife fanatic with interests and skills in horticulture, mental well-being, wildlife rescue and eating cake. She has a background in environmental science and working with people with disabilities. Her favourite trees are beech trees, because their colours in autumn are stunning.

Lauren Wood

Lauren is passionate about bringing nature and people closer together. She spent 10 years working in environmental and outdoor education for organisations such as RSPB and Field Studies Council and led overseas expeditions to places like Borneo before her body told her to slow down. Life is now slightly more sedate with a lot more meditation and book reading but when she isn't wild swimming, baking cookies, writing songs, or working for Small Woods, she runs a part time wilderness and well-being coaching business for women. Her favourite tree is Beech for the beautiful colours.

Liz Newton

With a long and varied career in the environmental sector Liz has held senior operational and strategy positions, most recently with Natural England, of which she was one of the founding Directors. She retired from Natural England in 2023, but remains connected to the sector and is currently chair of the Mersey Gateway Environmental Trust. While with Natural England she led Natural England's input to the Defra 25 Year Environment plan and the renewal of NE's own conservation strategy, C21 and then went on to lead NE's operational teams as a Director and a period as Chief Operations Officer. With strong roots in the North of England she has experience of working across a broad range of issues within the environmental sector, from strengthening rural economies, working with landowners on agri-environment schemes and bringing about nature recovery across the North. She was a key player in establishing Nature North, a partnership initiative, now working across the north of England to bring about nature recovery and gain investment in the natural environment for nature and people.

Melissa Dhillon

Melissa is enthusiastic and passionate about nature and loves spending time outside, especially in woodlands. As well as working for Small Woods, she is a freelance forest school leader and social forestry practitioner and works for a community woodland group as an Education Officer. Her favourite tree is blackthorn in spring, birch in summer, maple in autumn and beech in winter.

Michael Innes

Michael was born and brought up in Kent, where he spent his childhood playing in local woods. He recently retired from his work as a General Practitioner in Telford. During his career, he and his patients experienced at first hand the excellent wellbeing work of Small Woods. He has served both on a corporate (NHS) board, and as a trustee of a number of charities. He and his wife own a small wood in North Pembrokeshire near the coast, which they manage mostly for nature.

Mike May

Job Titles:
  • South West Wales Coordinator
Mike has experience in a number of sectors, including business, finance, and recently 15 years with The National Trust working in various roles. A keen lover of sport, the environment and photography, his favourite green and blue space is the 2,000 acre Stackpole Estate in Pembrokeshire which has it all:- beaches, freshwater lakes, dramatic cliffs, designed landscape, natural woodlands and a National Nature Reserve with 16 species of bats! Mike lives in Pembrokeshire with his family, including Maisey, a very spoilt working cocker spaniel.

Miriam Davies

Miriam (Mim) is our graphic design lead, working with I-Cheng to produce our quarterly magazine, Smallwoods, as well as all of our publicity materials, from event posters to course brochures. She is also working on updating our website. Her previous roles have been in the sustainability sector, including at the Centre for Alternative Technology and the Centre for Sustainable Energy. She loves Beech trees. She enjoys trail walking and wild swimming and is passionate about learning Welsh.

Nico Jenkins

Nico studied Psychology (BSc) and Conservation and Land Management (MSc) and has a background in farming and supporting vulnerable adults. She has specialist knowledge in medicinal woodland fungi and an interest in nature connection, mindfulness, herbalism, woodland ecology and foraging. Nico has a passion for the healing and restorative power of nature and loves to create a safe and welcoming space for her groups in the woodlands of Swansea. Nico is a fluent Welsh speaker and also works in the local college supporting young people from Welsh language schools on the landscaping course. Her favourite tree is the magical Elder, because it gives us both Elderflowers and Elderberries.

Rachel Bates

Job Titles:
  • Woodland Biodiversity Advisor
Having spent a decade and more in ecological consultancy, specialising in bats and habitat surveys, Rachel completed an MSc in Conservation and Forest Protection in 2020. She advises project participants on how to better manage their woodlands to benefit wildlife. Her favourite tree is Silver Birch, because it's simply a lovely tree in every way.

Rebecca Vincent-Evans

Rebecca (Beccy) is responsible for our Build a Bench project which is funded by the Building Better Opportunities project and runs at the Green Wood Centre in Coalbrookdale.

Richard May

Richard's role focuses on facilitating for the local community to access woodland activities, to ensure that those woodlands are safe to use and that our impact on them is positive. Richard has over 25 years experience working with people in the outdoors. He started his career working in outdoor pursuits centres before moving into Forest Schools. He has set up and managed several large Forest School centres that focused their provision towards children and young people who struggle to find success within mainstream education. His work has been driven by a strong belief that the outdoor environment, along with the building of significant relationships, are the best tools to support improved mental health and wellbeing. Richard also runs his own bespoke furniture business where he uses reclaimed wood to make new creations. He can usually be found in his workshop or in the woods.

Rosie Strang

Rosie has over twenty-two years' experience developing projects, networks and events in the environment, arts and education sectors, working with communities and organisations across the UK and Wales. Before Coed Lleol this included several years working with Llais y Goedwig - the community woodland network for Wales as their Network Coordinator.

Russell Critchley

Russell began working for Small Woods as a voluntary intern in 2016, after graduating from Plymouth University with a BSc in Biological Sciences. Since then, he has worked in various roles for Small Woods as well as for the Rivers Trust and Hill Holt Wood. In 2019, Russell established Deadwood: a countryside management company. To date, Deadwood manages several woodlands across the East Midlands, has laid over 4 miles of hedgerow and is currently training an apprentice hedgelayer and coppice worker.

Ryan Hampton-Pidgeon

As an IT apprentice, Ryan is studying here at Small Woods. He has a lot of experience in IT, working in the IT department at Adams Grammar School for around two years, then going through a kickstart program with Telford and Wrekin Council. He is currently responsible for helping with first line IT support, helping Small Woods staff with any IT issues they might have. His favourite tree is cherry.

Simon James - CEO

Job Titles:

Simon is a chartered forester, beginning his woodland and conservation education at Glynllifon, he followed this with a degree at Aberystwyth and masters at Bangor University. With a 16 year stint with the Forestry Commission, he experienced many roles from forest works supervisor in Sherwood, to forester in South Yorkshire, to woodland officer in the East Midlands. Simon also spent time as a Partnership and Expertise Manager for the West Midlands and Regulations Manager for National Office. Simon grew up in Cornwall and later lived in North Wales. He now lives in Shropshire with his wife and children, where they enjoy the countryside and have sheep and chickens on their smallholding. Simon enjoys tinkering with his vintage tractor and old landrover, and has made every effort to be part of village life, siting as a trustee of the local village hall, chair of the Parish Council and chair of the Edge Schools' Federation.

Steve Warwood

Steve joined Small Woods as a Projects Officer four years ago to work on the Defra ELMS project. After working on several other projects, he is now helping to design, deliver and assess accredited training programmes to the Small Woods stakeholder community. He also has responsibility for Quality Assurance activities across the organisation. Before this, he worked in many different industries which include photographic, printing, textiles, automotive, defence and forestry, mainly within the arena of quality management. He is also currently a Sessional Tutor with the University of Warwick. Over the years Steve has travelled to over 40 different countries. Now grandchildren, guitars, gardening and golf keep him busy alongside the duties as a Town Crier of Wellington, Shropshire.

Suzanne Chapple

Alongside her Project Officer role, Suzanne is a freelance Forest School and Woodland Leader who loves helping people connect with nature and woodlands. In her spare time, she practises yoga, is studying Permaculture and enjoys spending time in her garden and exploring different woodlands with her children and the dog. Her favourite tree is the Hawthorn. She used to spend a lot of time sitting in the one in her garden as a child and still feels very drawn to them. She is lucky enough to have one in her garden too!

Tom Dillon

Job Titles:
  • Woodland Management and Training Coordinator
Tom coordinates and teaches courses at the Green Wood Centre, as well as contributes to the management of the site. He has been a green woodworker for over ten years, starting out as Mike Abbott's chairmaking assistant in 2011. He lived and worked in various woodlands around Herefordshire, and worked in a green woodwork teaching role for a Special Education College for young adults in the West Midlands. His main crafts include green wood stool and chair-making, pole-lathe spindle and bowl-turning, spoon carving, and roundwood timber-framing, and his favourite tree is Ash.

Vivienne Plank

Vivienne loves music and the outdoors. As well as working at Coed Lleol (Small Woods Wales), she is an Assistant Manager in a gift shop at a busy tourist attraction in Anglesey, runs social media accounts promoting live music, and stage manages at festivals. Vivienne hopes that one day there will be a Green Wood and Woodland Skills Centre in Anglesey. Her favourite tree is Oak, as she has a relationship with a particular local oak tree.

Zena Wilmot

Zena is part of the Social Forestry & Wellbeing and Woodland Management teams coordinating the woodland infrastructure and hubs stand of the ‘Outdoor Health and Green Infrastructure' project. As well as working for Coed Lleol, Zena works part-time for Llais y Goedwig as Network Facilitator. Zena has more than 15 years' experience working in the woodland sector in Wales and has a background in research, woodland management and social forestry. She has a passion for sustainability and has worked at the CAT and Sunseed eco projects. She is also a founding member of the Bodfrigan Housing Cooperative. In her spare time she enjoys foraging and making things out of natural materials. Her favourite tree is the rowan for its tenacity and bright red berries in the autumn woodlands.
