WINCHMORE HILL - Key Persons

Bob Gyles

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Winchmore Hill Sports Club Committee
  • Chairman of Football
Bob is now the longest (22 years) serving chairman of our football section. He joined the football section straight from school in 1969 (the season of the 50th anniversary of the section), started in the 4th team and moved up each year, making his 1st XI debut in December 1971. Bob spent most of the 1970s in the 1's and then in the early 80's was skipper of the 2's and then the 3's. He played on until about 1995, finishing in the 5th XI. He joined the football committee in the early 70's as fixture secretary for two years and stepped back in as Vice Chairman under David Lodge in the mid 90's. The Chairman's role was taken on in 1997 which he still holds. Bob has also been elected as a Vice President of the Club, and is now a Life Member. His two sons have played for the 1's and 2's, both before and after their university absences, before they too hung up their boots. He has been heavily involved in the formation of the youth section and brought in Andy Russell as 1st XI coach and youth development officer, which kick started a period of great success on the pitch for all teams and particularly the 1st XI. Bob also played cricket for the club from 1970 to 1981, playing mostly for the ‘A's' as the 2nd XI were then known.
