I AM SORYI

Soryi (Sor-d-ee), which means…pear-maybe?-or some kind of stone fruit. Peach? ask her mother… was born in Prachinburi, Thailand in the eighties to Cambodian parents... In 1989 her family immigrated to Porirua, a cold, wet and windy suburb North of Wellington in New Zealand. She spent a good decade of her life growing up watching rugby, netball, and going fishing. She hasn't been back in almost 20 years... After a decade of the cold, her family moved to hot and humid Brisbane, Australia. In school, she had to adapt to the slight accent change. She graduated from high school in 2001 and took a year off to build doors to save up for her university tuition. As mundane and repetitive as it was, the year flew by. The following year she started her course at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, where she found that she preferred working on real life projects over her course curriculum.
