SPALDING ASSOCIATES - Key Persons

Adrian has extensive experience of ecology in Britain and abroad. He has published books and scientific papers on a range of subjects and specialises in the ecology of derelict land, the management of railway corridor vegetation, invertebrates especially butterflies and moths, habitat restoration for a range of species and habitat assessments for wind farms and solar farms. He is currently researching with Exeter University the effect of light pollution on insect populations. He is licensed to work on a range of protected butterfly and moth species and has full PTS and IWA qualifications for working railside.

Aidan studied Ecology at Plymouth University and returned to do a Masters in Biological Diversity. He has worked in applied ecological research at the University of Exeter and abroad at Cano Palma Biological Station in Costa Rica as their Research Coordinator. He has also spent 15 years working in the construction industry as a landscape contractor and extensive experience designing and implementing soft landscaping works and management plans also taking them through to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and Landscape Habitat Management Plans (LEMPs) He is an experienced field surveyor taking particular interest in botany, birds and Badgers including licensing.

Amy studied at the University of Plymouth, Devon and then at the University of Exeter. She specialises in birds, badgers and Japanese Knotweed and had previously worked for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds as a Conservation Assistant and also as a volunteer for the Bat Conservation Trust. She has recently gained her Property Care Association certification as Certified Surveyor in Japanese Knotweed (2018). We first met her working on the Isles of Scilly for the Seabird Recovery Project and we asked her to join us in 2014.

Catriona studied biological sciences at London University, specialising in marine biology. She now specialises in Ecological Impact Assessments, Ecological Clerk of Works, planning work and coastal ecology and management. She has wide experience of habitat and plant surveys and is licensed to work on a range of species including reptiles, Petalwort, Early Gentian and Shore Dock, and is the only person licensed to work on Trembling Sea Mat.

Cheryl Yarham has just joined the team at Spalding Associates as the marine and intertidal ecologist. Cheryl gained her BSc in Marine Biology and Zoology at Bangor University and has extensive knowledge of UK marine ecology. She brings her expertise of the south-west's coastal environment from working with Seaquest, marine mammal survey and medic working, and her wide knowledge of marine survey techniques and diving skills.

Katherine studied conservation biology and ecology at the University of Exeter and has a background in practical conservation and ornithological work, for which she holds a bird ringing permit. She is an active member of the West Cornwall Ringing Group and Cornwall Bat Group. She is one of our main bat ecologists.
