Unlike other species, cows have evolved a unique tiny domain that protrudes far from the typical antibody surface. This "knob" region can bind challenging epitopes, and can even be removed from the antibody as an independent target binding domain. These knob domains, at only 5 kDa, are the smallest known antibody fragment and have potentially important drug properties...
