SKUBA - Key Persons

Dr. Amanda Skuba

People ask me if I like my job. I can honestly say that I love my job. I have wanted to be a dentist since I was little enough to comprehend what my dad did when he went to work. I value the ability to help someone in pain, the chance to connect with my patients, and the privilege of spending the days with such absolutely wonderful co-workers. Skuba Dental is family, literally and figuratively. What I love most about my job, is that I am part of the history and tradition of what my dad started and built. I look forward to nurturing and growing the Skuba Dental Family. When I am not with my dental family, I am at my first job - home with family. The loves of my life - my two sons and my husband.

Dr. Jonathan I. Skuba

I've been at Skuba Dental Associates since before I graduated in 2001 (I used to be ‘chart boy', in the pre-digital era) and am very excited about what we have built for our patients. I'm especially proud of this family dental team and of my wife and two sons. When I'm not here, I coach my boys in a variety of sports, and love to enjoy Edmonton's amazing development, as well as travelling with family and friends. I put high value on personal wellness and family time. In our home, we love to make music and cook. And yes- I did see the most recent Oilers game! I believe that I can best help my patients when a personal connection is made, and growing those connections is my favorite part of this career. I knew I was going to be a dentist long before I applied to dental school at the U of A. [...] I knew I was going to be a dentist long before I applied to dental school at the University of Alberta. I'd driven to the North Side from St. Albert as Lloyd headed to the old clinic at Londonderry Mall, and attended Junior High School at Londonderry (Go Lions!). As much as I loved grabbing some Tahiti Treat (horrible for the teeth, I know) and Hickory Sticks at the old Red Rooster on the ground floor of the professional building, I got to spend a few hours each day of my formative years meeting families of patients that Lloyd had seen since before I was born and seeing the Lloyd J. Skuba & Associates team work together like a family. I was blessed to see how much my dad valued every relationship he built in that place. That was really the thing that made my career choice easy. He was happy because he cared about how all the people involved in giving and receiving that care each experienced it. There was technology, there were 80's and 90's comfort amenities ("Can we offer you a Walkman or Discman today?")- but what endured were the conversations and the closeness between everyone who visited and worked there.

Job Titles:
  • New Dentist at Skuba Dental
I'm a new dentist at Skuba Dental! Originally from Nova Scotia (I hide my accent well), I studied at Dalhousie followed by a hospital-based residency in Halifax. I come from a long line of dental professionals and then married one! We are a tooth-loving family, which is why I feel so at home here at Skuba Dental. I moved to Edmonton in 2017 with my husband and our dog and recently welcomed our daughter last winter.
