Denise Hare

Denise is an economist with interests in the fields of labor and development, and a member of the Reed College faculty since 1992. Her research focuses on Asia, generally, and China in particular, and has addressed questions about gender, food security policy, rural governance, privatization and property rights, and rural industry. Her current work examines China's vocational education and training programs. Outside of the academic world, Denise has served on the board of her neighborhood association as well as representing the board to the district coalition. She is a parent of a recent Portland Public Schools (PPS) graduate, and enjoys biking and yardwork.

Gabrielle Mercedes Bolívar

Gabrielle has been actively involved in public policy, education advocacy, and social justice for over 30 years. She is the Executive Director of Mainspring Portland where she has served for the past 7 years. She has served on several Portland Public School and Oregon Department of Education committees, including the Jefferson High School Design Committee and SACET. Gabrielle holds a Master of Public Administration from the Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University; she was awarded an Underrepresented Minority Achievement Scholarship for her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She is an ultra-marathon runner, and, when not on the run, enjoys spending time with her family and their menagerie of rescue animals in North Portland.

Jen Lachnite - Treasurer

Jen has over 25 years of experience in the finance and accounting industries. Most recently she spent 18 years at a wealth management company managing the development, distribution and use of competitive information and analytic reporting used by life insurance professionals nationwide. Jen loves all things spreadsheet related and has worked in upstate New York, Florida and Japan creating data-based solutions for organizations. Jen received her Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) financial designations from the American College. She has traveled extensively for both business and leisure, national and international. Jen lives in Southeast Portland with her husband, two sons and new puppy.

Matt Marjanović - President

Matt has had a longstanding interest in technology and privacy policy, but he became deeply engaged in public policy work with the creation of the Soft Neighborhood Model with long-time collaborator Brooke Cowan. For most of his professional career, Matt has been a software engineer, working on a diverse array of projects ranging from airline reservation systems to autonomous grain carts. Prior to industry, he was a professional student, earning a Ph.D. and S.M. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Humanoid Robotics), a S.B. in Physics, and a S.B. in Math, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He lives in Northeast Portland with his long-time collaborator and their children, and he is glad to be playing ice hockey again after a pandemic-induced hiatus.
