Debra Durham

Debra Durham, Ph.D., is a primatologist and animal behaviorist who has held leading positions in national organizations. You'll find her escaping to the field to do noninvasive research with her primate friends.

DJ Schubert

Job Titles:

DJ Schubert is a wildlife biologist whose decades of experience include leadership positions in nationally known nonprofit organizations advocating for nonhuman animals and their ecosystems. In his decades of advocacy DJ has protected wildlife species including whales, bison, mountain lions, bears, migratory birds, argali sheep, and wild horses while addressing management issues involving lands administered by the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. You will find him at the forefront internationally pushing for real enforcement of international agreements including those that enforce prohibitions against trade in wildlife and whaling.

Hal Garcia-Smith

Hal Garcia has worked in the medical sector for physicians, non-profit HIV-AIDS prevention programs and research, and currently for a county health department. As a disease intervention specialist, he tests and counsels members of the public. His clients often come from economically and socially disadvantaged communities. His pro-active compassion for people, and other species, drives his choice of work as well as his volunteering as our Secretary for Green Vegans board of directors.

Howard Lyman

Howard Lyman is a fourth-generation former cattle rancher and crop farmer, author, and internationally respected speaker who is now a vegan advocate. He holds a BS in Agriculture. Along with Oprah Winfrey, he faced down the cattle industry who had sued them for giving meat a bad name - and won.

Marc Bekoff

  • Professor Emeritus of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado
Marc Bekoff, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and is a Fellow of the Animal Behavior Society and a former Guggenheim Fellow. He is an ethologist (animal behavior). Marc is also an ambassador for Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots program and a prolific author. Learn more about his groundbreaking and popular work.

Tami Drake

Tami Drake was a co-founder and International Director of Ocean Defense International lobbied in Washington D.C. and attended three International Whaling Commission meetings specifically regarding ASW. Tami also co-founded America's Whale Alliance (AWA). This coalition of over 80 US groups was founded by Ocean Defense International in response to the apparent change of direction of the US government regarding its opposition to the resumption of commercial whaling. AWA's unprecedented "Stop Whaling!" bus tour, garnered incredible support from West Coast residents. A 35-ft. long California municipal bus that was converted to run on bio-diesel was transformed into a whale bus by dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly for weeks. Tami also has 23 years of experience as a litigation paralegal.

Toni Frohoff

Toni Frohoff, Ph.D., is a marine mammal scientist, speaker, and published author focused on both wild and captive species. Her research projects focus on wildlife behavior, dolphin communication, interspecies communication, and the study of emotion, welfare, and conservation in other species. She consults for other organizations on the impacts of captivity on wildlife including elephants and cetaceans. Check out her website.

Will Anderson

Job Titles:

Will Anderson has a long career in campaign advocacy in both the environmental and animal rights nonprofit sector. He founded the original Greenpeace Alaska and co-founded the original Maine Animal Coalition and has been employed by several regional and national organizations. His campaign experiences span a variety of subject matter and species. His overall goal is to use campaigns as vehicles for accomplishing the Seven Goals of The New Human Ecology. He lives in Seattle and wants to spend more time in quiet places outdoors. Will holds a BS in Management and Communication.
