Steve Hubbard

Job Titles:
  • Instructor
  • Guitar Instructor
Hello! My name is Steve Hubbard, and I'm a 21 year old Guitarist from Canada! I currently play in a number of Christian Rock & Gospel bands, but have a passion for any form of quality music. I started playing guitar in junior-highschool, and after about three years, I realized that I wanted to make a career out of my playing, and that I needed to put in some solid practice time. A few of my main influences are: Greg Howe, Brett Garsed, Allen Hinds, and Frank Gambale. I doubt you will have a hard time hearing their style in my playing. Thanks for checking out my profile! My name is Jody Mac and I'm a 24 year old guitarist from New Brunswick, Canada. At age 12 I picked up a strat and I've never looked back since. My excitement about the instrument led me first to private guitar lessons, and eventually to New York where I was able to devote 4 years to studying the guitar under a number of gifted teachers. I currently play in a Christian rock band along side fellow instructor Steve Hubbard. My undergraduate studies were predominately jazz and classical, but my heart has always been for the blues, funk and groove. I enjoy many genres of music, thus my influences are equally varied. I find inspiration in artists such as Pat Martino, Manuel Barrueco, Stevie Ray Vaughan, even contemporary artists such as John Mayer and Jason Mraz. Playing live has given me a deeper appreciation for the complexity of music creation and subtleties that must be achieved to create a sound worth talking about.

Tom Quayle

Job Titles:
  • Guitar Instructor
Hi there. My name's Tom Quayle. I'm a professional guitarist and teacher from Leeds in the UK. I started playing guitar when I was 15 developing the interest after listening to my dad playing - he's phenomenal! Beginning with bands such as the Wild Hearts and Nirvana I learned loads of riffs from magazines and by ear before very quickly becoming obsessed with Dream Theater and Steve Vai! After almost failing my exams through excessive guitar practice, I realised this was what I wanted to do in life. I took guitar lessons for a year before going to Leeds College of Music to pursue a degree in Jazz Studies. My guitar teacher introduced me to Allan Holdsworth and Scott Henderson and my life was altered forever! I spent the next 3 years studying really hard and playing with some amazing musicians, attempting to learn to play over changes and play jazz. In 2002 I graduated with a BA (hons) in Jazz Studies and played gigs for a while, then I got disillusioned with my playing. I felt unoriginal and like a poor jazz imitator. I've spent the last few years developing my playing to try and achieve my own unique sound. I was a finalist this year in the Guitar Idol 2008 competition and came 2nd after Andy James in the Greg Howe play for me II contest - picked by the man himself! I'm currently writing my first album and have some really exciting collaborations coming up in the future. I recently played on fusion bass player extraordinaire Adam Nitti's new album ‘Liminal' due for release in March 09!

Travis Montgomery

Job Titles:
  • Guitar Instructor
Hello! My name is Travis Montgomery. I'm 22 years old and have been playing guitar for 9 years. I'm currently a member of the bands Threat Signal and Nociceptor. I became fascinated with music at about 5 years old. My favorite band was Pink Floyd, and I knew that I wanted to play guitar! It wasn't until I was about 12-13 years old that I actually picked up a guitar and began practicing. I began learning from one of those "How to Play Guitar For Dummies" books, but my actual obsession with playing guitar started when I discovered tabs! My main passion in music is metal, but I love pretty much all genres. The brutality and emotion behind metal is what draws me in. It's like no other genre out there. Also, I'm a pretty big video game nerd. I love video game soundtracks. I listen to soundtracks from games like Final Fantasy, Xenogears, Silent Hill, Star Ocean, Super Mario 64, and Goldeneye 007 on a regular basis.
