THORTAX - Key Persons

Sandra Thorold-Palmer

Sandra trained with Arthur Andersen in Brazil, working in audit, mergers & acquisitions, due diligence projects and tax consulting for corporate and personal clients. In 1998 she moved to the UK, to a top 10 firm in London, working initially in indirect taxes (specialising in VAT), then the private clients' department. She managed a portfolio of 400 private clients including HNWI, trusts and partnerships, coordinated the yearly update of the Worldwide Tax Guide, handled the offshore voluntary tax disclosure schemes and HMRC tax investigations, and restructured and streamlined the compliance process of the firm. In 2008 she moved to Zurich Switzerland, joining KPMG as a tax manager in incentive and equity compensation. Initially she worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team, helping to develop software to deal with the compliance issues of incentive and equity compensation in 125 countries. She led and participated in many global consulting projects on the tax effects of corporate restructuring on employee equity plans, and managed the incentive compensation of global accounts in respect to tax, social security and avoidance of double taxation. Enjoying the international context, but wishing for more personal client contact, Sandra transferred to the Swiss tax department at KPMG and was then involved with Swiss personal tax compliance for employees of large companies, advising corporate clients on Swiss tax and social security aspects of compensation and benefits, as well as on equity compensation structures and counselling individuals on the tax aspects of moving to, living and leaving Switzerland. In 2016 she started Thortax Consulting to fulfil her vision of serving clients more efficiently by providing bespoke taxation solutions covering seamlessly Switzerland, Brazil and the UK.
