The edges or ties, i.e. the light grey links between the bubbles, represent convertible note or preferred stock investments. An investment link is created if at least one investment has been made... The size of the nodes is scaled to represent ideosyncratic properties of the venture capital firms and startups. With respect to the startups, the size of the nodes is proportional to the total amount of funds raised. For the venture capital funds, the size of the nodes is scaled to represent the fund's position within the VC network.
