FRONTENAC ARCH BIOSPHERE

The Frontenac Arch Biosphere was established by the local conservation community to raise awareness about our unique geology and biodiversity, as well as, the people who live here. This is where the Thousand Islands create a land bridge over the river and around the great lakes for animal and bird migration. This is where five forest regions meet, creating a variety of habitats and opportunities for animals and people, alike... Initiated by a nomination from the community, this region was designated by UNESCO as one of Canada's 19 Biosphere Regions in 2002. The Frontenac Arch Biosphere Region is administered by the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Network . Our goal, as part of UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme, is to improve relationships between people and their environments... As a non-profit, community led organization, we rely on the support of people like you in order to bring the conservation work and programs we bring to the region.
