INTEGRATED IMAGING
Updated 12 days ago
Imaging is critical to advances in fundamental science and diverse applications over a wide range of scales. Until recently, research in imaging has primarily focused on improving the resolution, accuracy, and dynamic range of the imaging sensor. The objective has been to measure the desired physical property with the greatest precision and resolution. However, this classical strategy is approaching the limits of what is possible through traditional improvements of sensing devices. What is needed, and is in fact beginning to emerge, is a new paradigm that integrates algorithms, sensors, and applications to create advanced imaging systems with unprecedented capabilities. This alluring frontier holds tremendous opportunities for synergetic interdisciplinary advances, since the same core challenges define the future of macro-, micro-, and nano-scale imaging, which are central to many of the most important technologies of our time.
