MANNY VALERIN

Following graduation of Dental School, Dr. Valerin served as a teaching assistant at The Ohio State University School of Dentistry, earning 2 teaching awards,,The Student Government Teaching Award and Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity Clinical Instructor of the year. It was then he rediscovered an interest for hospital based advanced dentistry and teaching. This brought Dr. Valerin and his family to North Carolina where he served as Chief Resident at Carolinas Medical Center Department of Oral Medicine. During this time, he received the Lester Burket Award in the clinical category for his research on medications that affect bleeding after dental extractions during the Oral Medicine Symposium in Puerto Rico in 2005. His post-doctoral training has taken him and his family to UNC College of Dentistry, Chapel Hill, North Carolina for advanced training in radiology, the Navy Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland for advanced training in facial pain and research at the National Institute of Health . He also received advanced training in hospital dentistry at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow, Scotland. Once completing his post-doctoral training, Dr. Valerin and his family moved to Illinois where he served several years as a professor at the University of Illinois Dental School in Chicago. With Dr. Valerins hospital training and knowledge this has given him an edge to provide the best in comprehensive dentistry for the entire family as well as the safest methods in sedation dentistry for those with dental anxiety. He has now enjoyed private practice for over 18 years. He loves the relationships he has built with his patients and their families through private practice and his community. The decision to relocate to Peoria, Illinois was greatly influenced by the fact that his family has better access to health care for his daughter as well as allowing him the opportunity to continue his teaching career part time while enjoying private practice. Dr. Valerin is a current faculty member at OSF Saint Francis General Practice Residency Program for General Dentists. He is excited to have the opportunity to pass along the knowledge he has gathered over the years spent at a Level 1 trauma center during his training career as well as his experience providing comprehensive dentistry through private practice. Dr. Valerin volunteers with his wife for the Illinois Mission of Mercy program providing free dental care to thousands in need and plans to continue this tradition, he was part of a missionary team providing dental care to under developed villages internationally, he volunteers for Dental Lifeline of Illinois and has volunteered for the LaSalle County Health Department, American Red Cross, Give Kids a Smile Day and so much more within his community. He is an active member in the Peoria District Dental Society, Illinois State Dental Society, American Dental Association, serves as President for the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, a Certified BLS Instructor through the American Heart Association, received the latest up to date training on OSHA/ HIPPA regulations and participates regularly in continuing education courses nationwide. Dr. Valerin and his wife, Kristy, have three children. They enjoy the outdoors, traveling, deep sea fishing, Ohio State football games, golf and sailing. Dr Valerin has crewed on multiple offshore sail races including the Newport to Bermuda race and the Caribbean 500. However, any time spent enjoying friends and family are the best!
