When my friend in Bali told me that she had done an incredible hike sunrise hike to see an active volcano, I knew that I had to go wherever it was. She told me that it was in Java, not in Bali, and that I had to catch a ferry to the other island. No problem. I booked a trip tot Java and never looked back. What I didn't realize is how tricky it would turn out to be to get there. Java hasn't become a developed tourist destination yet, or at least not like Bali, so when I got there I felt a bit… lost.
