The Banyard Inn of Court is named in honor of Judge Robert Banyard. Before being appointed to the bench, he was a well-respected and skilled litigator in Orange County who began his legal career as a JAG officer in 1943 and supervised 40 lawyers in the trial unit. This, despite the fact that he was not a lawyer. He then self-studied law and passed the Californnia Bar Exam in 1946. For many years, he tried civil cases in Orange County and became known for his skill, civility, and Professionalism. He was president of the Orange County Bar in 1966 and was appointed to the bench in 1969. During his years on the bench, Robert Banyard earned the reputation of being an extremely successful settlement judge. In a fitting tribute to Robert Banyard, following his death in 1986, this Inn was formed. In the years since his death, the membership of the Banyard Inn has continued to grow steadily with many of the local bench serving as officers and master benchers.
